He is making allowance for it ... as did the WeDeclare crowd by allowing diversity in "media" ... the TV is now a moot issue ...

Again Baron, part of Crownover's intent or context for writing was to provide a "point-by-point study of the statement on "Holiness" found in the UPCI Articles of Faith. This section attempts to present in an unbiased manner the historical, biblical, and practical meaning of each point as it is variously understood and taught in UPCI churches. "

This is the expressed context ...

Crownover wasn't raised within the UPC and his own life-long experiences and understanding of the UPC's "standards" has always been a bit at variance with the Mothership's.

Not sure what his intent was in this power point, I doubt that it was to rewrite anything. One thing I have liked about RC is that while he doesn't try to make waves he also doesn't just go with the flow. He has identified himself with the PCI views on more than one occasion and though very conservative by his own admissions, he doesn't want to see those to the left of him demonized or run out of the UPC. I know for a fact he has asked those from a more liberal viewpoint not to leave the UPC.

I guess traditional teachings on television depends on the part of the country and the pastor you had.

But is what he saying any different from what the WeDeclare crowd or even Bernard has argued with the recognition that the technology has shifted .....

Bernard in 2007:

Quote:
Since worldliness is often communicated throughout society by the media, the United Pentecostal Church International has expressed its concern that Christians may be influenced by the media to compromise biblical holiness. It has officially dealt with technology in three ways: (1) allowed its use without voicing caution or disapproval (telephone, automobile, microwave, central heating, printing press, photography, computer, etc.); (2) accepted its use with warning and restrictions (radio, video); and (3) rejected its use as being unsuitable for Christians or for their homes (movie theater, television).

The United Pentecostal Church International recognizes that technology is not evil in itself, but it feels that it must reject any use of technology that favorably displays a lifestyle of worldliness and ungodliness. Moreover, since technology continues to accelerate in our times, the United Pentecostal Church International and Christians must evaluate each new use of technology, especially media technology, in the light of biblical holiness.
Quote:
Changing technology, including the merger of Internet, video, and television, has created a new situation, and as a movement we are seeking the right way to operate in this environment. We should prayerfully lead our congregations in holiness and create a consensus for the appropriate use of technology. If there are abuses of technology or uses that undermine our position of holiness, then we need to take corrective measures
WeDeclare:
Quote:
Issues such as media, wedding bands, and other areas of diversity are and should continue to be tolerated.

I'd say that perhaps Bernard and the WeDeclare.org crowd are catching up with where Crownover was standing in 1980.

Crownover's degrees are in the field of computer science and the use of technology in education.

Bro, I fully understand that RC is one of the more peaceable teachers in the movement ... however, the literature coming out of the org ... and org institutions was very dogmatic even 20 years ago about television watching ... in instance after instance.

This hill has been surrendered ... even at educational institutions like UGST.

Who is leading the charge ... really is not my point ...

The language in defense of many of these standards is changing ... and if the "intelligentsia" and the "rank and file" are now recognizing that some of this stuff ain't bible ... but rather tradition ... this marks a major shift in the paradigm, imo.

These are not defensible positions, so they must be surrendered or risk losing the war.

Which positions do you think are the next line in the sand?

I think it's hair.

Not sure DKB is ready to rewrite his practical holiness book.

To me it certainly is one of the positions that is most difficult to defend, but the new GS probably isn't ready to eat crow on that yet.
