Re: Installation of Bro. David Bernard
I don't think it's a bashing thread, BUT those of you who say nothing negative has been said (or implied) are being deliberately obtuse. MOW included.
Bottom line, there's nothing wrong with having a special service to install a new leader, and usually it's replete with other ministers praying over him--not putting a crown on his head. Seems appropriate to me. I do realize that it's overdone sometimes, but DKB isn't the type of man to become a king, even if others dangle a crown in front of his nose.
We've had special services to honor our pastor and his wife, and I'm sure the people in MOW's church have done the same for him.
As far as serving goes--our pastor doesn't expect us to serve him; he serves the congregation. However, we teach our children to serve others and the church, including the leadership. The difference is that some people act like there's a special blessing for serving the ministry above serving the saints. The eternal results of servitude are the same either way, but that doesn't mean we should leave out our leaders just to make a political point.

Thank you, crakjak. I agree. Our pastor and his wife do not sit on the platform. They sit in a pew and not always on the front row.

Well said, Miss B, respecting and honoring great leadership is very appropriate, and I stated as much in my post. Leadership is very hard work, and it should be properly acknowledged.
I am currently reading, John Adams by David McCullough, and I am quite amazed at how tentative the establishment of governance for this country actually was, if not but the grace of God, the USA would never have existed. It is so true, that "...unless the Lord build the house, the builders build in vain..." GREAT LEADERSHIP IS VERY RARE INDEED!! And it is only servant leadership that builds anything that lasts, all other building dies with the founders. And eventually all human institutions seem to fail.

Good points, Abi.
I call it bashing when someone comes in with a simple question and all the negative comments, having nothing to do with the question posed, come crawling out of the woodwork. That is bashing, IMO.
It also comes across as being as exclusive as some claim the 3-steppers represent themselves against the one-steppers. It is a division. I find no redeeming qualities in that. So, I would like to thank, especially MOW as Admin, for making me feel very welcome here. Just sayin'
BTW, I have never seen Michael Phelps, as an Admin, represent himself in such fashion.
