It always amazes me that to some people, it seems that the only group of people who should be disparaged or criticized is the UPCI. That being said, I hate what ministry has become about and how obsessed leaders have become with attaining wealth and living the lifestyle of the rich and the famous...particularly when it is on the backs of people who suffer and sacrifice to support it.

Atlanta Bishop, I do not know you but I wholeheartedly disagree that most people give because they want to see these guys so insanely wealthy. Many of them don't even have any idea how insanely wealthy they are. They go out of their way to hide it from everyone. I know too many poor people who give because they have been hoodwinked by these snake-oil salesmen selling blessings.

I'm just saying that I think the comparison of church leaders to CEOs is fallacious in some ways. I understand it in some respects, but at the end of the day I think some has to be reminded that they are not CEOs of for-profit organizations. There are plenty of non-religious non-profit and government type organizations with huge operational budgets, but their CEOs are not paid like for-profit CEOs with similar budgets. They are well-compensated with pay worthy of their experience and responsibilities...but there is a difference.
If we are going to be for-profit then let's do away with the tax exemptions and protections, etc and put our profits out there in the open.

Then you have the whole other issue about it not being in the spirit of what we should be all about.

That's a whole 'nuther subject.
Some folks do not think churches should be exempt from taxes as "non-profit" organizations because that is government subsidy of religion. Let the churches pay taxes on property and profits like any other business.

I think it's the "non-profit" part that should matter; not religion or lack thereof.

I never said or insinuated that "most people give because they want to see these guys so insanely wealthy".
These guys are in a different world than us. People give to them because they want to give. Nobody makes or forces anyone to give. It is no different than the LONGGGGGGG offerings at a General Conference or a Campmeeting. Who is FORCING these people to give? NOBODY!
The reason I can say that some DEMAND them to live in mansions and drive Bentleys is because I have seen them GIVE them mansions and cars and planes! There are some VERY WEALTHY business men and women that give these big time preachers MILLIONS and put them in million $$$ mansions.
I was in a meeting this week where someone GAVE a ministry an incredible HOUSE and someone else gave them an incredible CAR! No one asked them - they just GAVE IT! They wanted to give it! There was no offering being received and they gave it! I have seen people walk up and give a minister a shoe box stacked full of $100 bills (over $25,000) and said - this is for you and your family.
It is hard to believe it if you don't see it happen but I have seen it.
I can say I have seen and heard about everybody there is to see and hear and I have given most everything I have ever had into the ministry and NOBODY has ever MADE ME GIVE! I have given because I wanted too!
I gave to PTL - I did not give to Jim & Tammy Baker - I gave to PTL and am glad I did! I gave to help build Heritage USA and I gave it to GOD and not to man! I am glad I did it!
If you guys are not givers and you don't want to give - nobody is twisting your arm to give - just don't give!
I am thankful that I am a giver and give out far more than I even have to give to see the Gospel of the Kingdom preached around the world.
