Many of them, not all, often carry themselves as if they're better than others. When I visit the upc events in my area I notice that many of the young people don't dress up too much for services, but ones that do haven't exhibited a better than you attitude toward me.
My kids and I have noticed just the opposite. My kids will knot go to UPC events. They say and i agree that the young people dress worldly and talk worldly. My 18 year old son tells me that they talk about movies and sports and all kinds of worldly things. They dress ungodly and are in their little clicks and are stuck up.

We find that the ind event (which have some of the good con. UPC churches involved ) are just the opposite,. The young people are friendly and yes they tend to dress better. They dress appropriate for the house of God. Another reason we like it.

That could be part of the situation.

By all means stay where you feel safe!

As I said I have many friends in many camps....I noticed people's spirit long before I notice their clothes...but that is just me...sometimes even my kids tell me mother look how so and so is dressed...

On another forum a choir was mentioned not about what they sang (which was good) but how they were dressed. And from my experiance by visiting the church....acceptance and fashion seem to hold hands...

It starts from the top.... another conservative church near us the Bishops Married Daughter who's husband will be Pastor has a Monthly Clothing allowance from the church that is extremely generous.

Most of the more conservative churches seem to be alot about fashion and dress... They may preach modesty in dress but seem to excuse moderation in dress...maybe that's an out...

I did find it interesting in one church that is considered to be Ultra-Conservative that the Pastor's wife while "holy" in dress wore a very large expressive hat in every service that seemed to say "I may dress by the standard but at least I can wear Hats"....

I don't know that it matters.... but when folks come to visit I would think most would rather walk away saying that was one of the nicest church's they had been too... and not saying.. "what a fashion show"...

These churches while "Holy" seem to be seperated by fashion... and your accepted by the way you are dressed...

It's definately NOT right...

anybody else chime in??
I think the different Apostolic Organizations have their own fashions...some of them include:
*frizzy over-permed hair
*poofs
*messy knots
*low on the hip jean skirts [which show their bellies when they raise their hands to praise]
*jean skirts made out of a pair of pants/jeans that are tight on the body and from the side may as well be jeans
*hose on children and pre-adolescent girls
*high heels on children & pre-adolescent girls

Churches can be the epitomy of their own fashions

Why do you lower yourself to being identified with those jezebel heatherns when your independent ultra con brothers are so much "holier"?

You sound like a prime canidate for either the GIB or the AMF.

As Elder Epley says (and I agree 100%) "Come out from among them!!!".

I would only add "Don't let the door hit you in the fanny on your way out".
