Did you read the part about "ministers are not paid?"

Most do not, and most are Social Security exempt - both in payments to and being a recipient of...
The church also does not permit bankruptcies. They will come to the aid of a member to prevent it if need be.

Yeah, I did. I guess I'd have to find another way to earn my three Mercedes', 45-hundred square foot house, 128 foot motor home, beach home in Santa Barbara, monthly Hawaii get-a-ways, bi-monthly cruises, and weekly decompress rounds of golf at Pebble Beach (that 30-minute weekly sermon wears me slap-out).

I do not have an opinion on the method of taking an offering, but I do believe if you are transparent about the needs and where the money is going, your offerings will be sufficient. I like the Baptist method that gives an accounting of income and out go weekly on the back of the bulletin.

I love the idea of boxes on the wall.

We have the children take up the offering so it's less pressure.

At our church the pastor has said from the platform that anyone can see the books any time they want.
There are times when there is a special need and the pastor will ask for volunteers. For example we had a youth camp last summer. Many children come to church without parents. So, the pastor had 40 or so people volunteer to give $100 to cover that expense. Just a couple of weeks ago an offering was taken up for a family in the church who was having financial problems. The name of the family was not given publicly but the pastor did say that if someone wanted to know who was receiving the money to see him and he would tell you. We were facing major repairs on a bus and the pastor told how much it was estimated to be and asked for volunteers to give a specific amount. I think it was $100. After the bus was repaired he announced that it was not as expensive as they had thought and offered to give some money back to anyone that had donated. I have no idea if anyone asked for a refund but it was offered.

Re: How would you take tithes/offering?
I'm going to answer the original question.
"How would you take tithes/offering?"
Me personally I would make giving tithes/offerings so fun that you have to participate.
# Divide the church into two teams . Put the offering plate in the North and south section . Insert money into balls while trying to make them into your teams plate. When it's over the team with the most wins.

Re: How would you take tithes/offering?
Take offerings and tithe for goodness sake!!!!
Do as one suggested....have a march mixed with music and fellowship...have everyone get up and greet each other and greet the visitors....
Works well for us.
Dont harp on it ...unless there is a special need (lights are going to be turned off etc) ...and then spend a little time, make the need clear and move on.
Folks expect offerings at church...what they hate is the high pressure tactics.

Why would they expect an offering? It never happened one time in the bible.
