Allstate, no it isn't necessary, and yes you're right. Find one verse in the whole Bible where the phrase "prayed them through" is even used. Most of the time the Holy Ghost just fell on believers or the apostles came and laid hands on them. (but not the entire group of believers assembled, and not all 12 apostles at once!) No one in the Bible sought the Holy Ghost, other than the 120 in the upper room tarrying for the promise, either. Once the Holy Ghost was poured out initially (in God's perfect timing, NOT when they had "repented enough") there is never another mention of people praying long hours tearfully begging for the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the free gift of God.
As for the massages... if a preacher preaches that a certain female body part should be clothed (should not be seen) he shouldn't be touching it either, even in his zeal for praying them through. (I've seen it happen, just wanted to add it here.)
