Why am I labeled backslid and unusable by God

Members of our current church heard we visited this other church and they are now praying for our salvation and have labeled us as backslidden and their faith in us has diminished.. How can this be?? I can’t believe people have this mentality.
...why on earth would people think this? DO we (UPC) tradition holders really think we are the only heaven bound people out there?

I know MANY in UPC and similar churches that have never objectively looked at things, and seen how out of whack things were. What you see as common, this brother is shocked. To BLAST him on that is RIDICULOUS!

If it's common for people to be harrassed when leaving a church, and having their soul prayed for because they are VISITING another church, SHAME! I refuse to fellowship with any church where they yawn at this and consider it normal.

That's not downplaying his hurt. Most of us are VERY aware of the pain involved. It stinks. I wish it didn't happen like that. I hope someday that it changes. It has in some places. Hopefully, over time, this will become a rarity.

But, for now.... this is not unusual. Unfortunately. And if the original poster truly was surprised, then he must have a pretty unusual church if he's never witnessed this reaction before.

My parents changed churches a few months ago! The pastor of the church they left told the congregation not to be seen socializing with them!!!

So they preach Acts 2:38. I know many preachers who teach Acts 2:38 and I could not doctrinally go there because they teach OSAS or similar views. Acts 2:38 is not the end all to all doctrine. It's a good start of general belief but I would question why the other things are taught from a doctrinal standpoint. Everything has a source reason. Though I do know preachers who teach parts of different views and ignore the areas where they contradict each other.


Don't be suprised at what you experience. You need to be the shield for your family by attitude toward God and his leading. What any pastor preaches is minor it's what God says to your heart that matters andI think you know that.

Well the point of shunning in part was taught by Paul. How far the view of heresy and evils deeds is viewed.... who knows.
