How could they for the most part the dress requirements for men are the same as the world for a good decent business man.

I know exactly what Carp is talking about.

I've been away from where I grew up close to 30 years. When I'm there I will run into people that attend churches in surrounding areas that I remember. I would smile like I recognize them and speak to them. They would look at me like I have the plague until they later saw me with my mom and then go into the, well you've changed so much, I'm just use to seeing you with that beautiful long hair, I would have never realized it was you until I saw you with your mom.

Same face, same blue eyes - - different hair.

Here's another true story too. I visited a UPC church with an old friend of mine and we were sitting in service and I was singing my usual alto to every song. She turned to me during service and said, I'm surprised you know the songs.

Duh, I didn't leave God or worshiping him.

I used to do it to others, now I am the one it is done unto.

Again, I believe it is the religious culture. People become what they believe in the Apostolic church, therefore when you are viewed as being in opposition or in non-compliance, then people take it as a personal insult.

This is so interesting to me how identical dynamics of the church can cross so many different folks and situations. This is case in point.

By total strangers at a store or restaraut? Not me. Now, if I was at a youth convention where the city is filled up with people from my church I would be less surprised. But a total stranger on a random night...I'd be wondering who this is...does he go to my church. What is the deal? In fact I had a guy recently at church walk up to me and greet me as Brother ________...I was shocked because I had no idea who this guy was, but I did not sneer at him. I did not turn my back and walk away...though I might have had a weird look on my face I was not mean or nasty...it was after he introduced himself that I realized he was the son of a couple that I had not seen in years and he was all grown up. Come on..you want to be treated with respect here and not be compared to Coop...give ME a break ok? Yes I think it is TERRIBLE disgusting and getting really really annoying for people to have such a nasty attitude towards Apostolics and assume the WORST and then want to be treated themselves fairly and as brothers and or sisters.

I don't see how that can be when every other thread is an attempt to bash and trash Apostolics. It's really getting old. I have already gotten sick of certain individuals that I rarely read their posts anymore. There is no way I can fellowship with them...not because they don't agree with me on doctrine, but because every word that comes out of their mouth is a direct or indirect acidic quip about Apostolics or the UPC. It is weary. It does not build faith, it genders strife.

But let me point this out...I was NOT responding to you. I was responding to someone else and you chose to jump in. That person suggested something bad about them because they had a 'weird look' on their face. And I am saying it gets old for people to assume the worst of Apostolics just because they had a weird look YET they were cordial and thanked you for holding the door. But despite the fact that they were thanking you they were labeled as not being nice or whatever she said....

Now you want to talk about typical? A weird look despite thanking you makes Apostolics still not nice people....

I know people that left the org or our local church or standards etc etc and they never got mistreated by me. Once again the sweeping generalization spirit is alive and well

Prax, allow me to ask you publicly and respectfully...do you have a problem with me?!

If so, I am sincerely sorry for whatever it is that I do or say that offends you.

FOR THE RECORD: I adhere to matters of dress and hair and such which you would no doubt approve.

I have been in and around the Apostolic Church for over 55 years and DO NOT make sweeping genrealizations.

In the post you quoted, I was referrring to ME...not you or anyone else.

If you have never done that, God love ya, but I did.

Again, I was referring to ME...not a sweeping generalization.

Perhaps in your haste, you missed this post to you...

Sorry, but I don't think the worst of people. I read the post in question and gave my opinion.

I'm sorry if you felt it was judgmental...I do my level best to not fall into that.

My intent was not to speak evil, rather to point out that their countenance appeared to change once they beheld his wife.

As any other poster, I called it like I saw it, Prax...it's called an opinion.

Please forgive me for causing you to misunderstand my intent. So that there is no further misunderstanding on your part, I will refrain from these 'standard' discussions.

I am not angry, Prax...just confused by your responses.

Have a good day...

See my point? Just because someone else used a symbol first and that someone else believed stuff we do not, that does not make our use of it equally pagan.

We have to look at WHY the early Christians used the fish symbol and did they actually get it from a pagan source? Sunday is a pagan word and Sunday worship is pagan (Pagans worshiped on Sunday and pagans used fish symbols and pagans ate pork and beef and pagans did this and that)

So simply that pagans were known to use a fish symbol does not make the fish symbol Christians used was pagan
Let's face it. Everything we do the pagans did first, including Christmas and Easter!

I know someone who preaches against Christmas because of the pagan origins and thinks those who celebrate it are hellbound but he celebrates his kids' birthdays, even though he knows birthday celebrations are also pagan rituals......LOL!

Oh, but that's different!
