How Many Times Have You Read The Bible Through ?

When I was little I was placed in remedial reading because I just wasn't getting the whole reading thing. It was a life changing decision. My teacher was Mrs. Fletcher and I could tell she really loved me. She took lots of time with me and made reading fun. We would act out the stories we read in class. She was da bomb!

It only took one year in her class to develop an absolute love for all things written. I began to devour the bible and every Louis L'Amour book I could get my hands on.

I love to hear these kind of personal stories.

I remember the day I realized I could read for myself and read my first real storybook. I can still see that book and the charcoal illustrations in my mind. . It was like a whole new world opened up to me!!

I got in trouble for lying to the teacher one day in 1st grade soon after I made this discovery. I was supposed to be doing arithmetic but was reading instead. She asked me if I'd done my arithmetic exercise and I said, "yes". She asked me to bring it to her and of course I had no choice but to show her an empty page.

She spanked me! I was so upset that a few minutes later when we went outdoors for recess I ran home and told my mother I was never going back to school again. LOL!

She marched me immediately back to school and made me apologize for not telling the truth. The teacher hugged me and all was well.

I was a huge avid voracious reader and read all the time. I just wish my parents had shown some interest in that and helped direct me in my reading. My mom never read to us. My dad read but I don't remember him ever doing a lot of reading with us. Maybe he did when I was too young to remember.

I walked to the local library all by myself at the age of 7 and got an application form so I could loan books out.

We didn't have a tv (and I still don't), so we had lots of time to read. We would trade L'Amour books with other folks in the church. It was real easy knowing what to buy family members for special events.

We also ordered a bunch of hunting and fishing magazines like Outdoor Life, Field & Stream and the Missouri Conservationist.

I finished English and History when I was a freshman in High School. It took a while longer with Math and Science. I would fly through paces simply because I loved to read history and also because english helped me understand what I was reading.

My favorite book ever was called "Treasures of the Snow" and was required reading in the ACE school I attended from sixth grade on.

One of my most treasured (and fragile) Bibles is one which belonged to my Dad, who died January 22, 1974. He always wrote small notes alonngside many of the passages in this Bible, and one of my favorites was found at Acts 4:29 - "And now Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word." My Dad's note reads - And may it never cease!

Sorry, Didn't mean to Hi-jack. I've read the Bible through several times, probably 5 or so.

Enjoyed reading the Amplified through, but it took WAY TOO LONG.

Last year, I read through THE MESSAGE. Preached from it several times.

One, I remember in particular was "Don't Be a Scatterbrained Idiot" from James 1.

Yep, I read that one too. Great stuff.

I may try the Typing method. That's neat. I definitely get different things listening than reading. I imagine typing The Word will make many things "stick" in my mind.

I quit counting years ago then I had read it through 50 times. For years I would read nothing but the Bible not even the paper. I would take it to school and insert it in my books. I have not done a systematic thru the Bible reading for the past few years I need to do it again. Please do not think I am boasting I have been blessed with speed reading all my life. I can read a 300 page book easily in a day if it is interesting.
