Re: Been Watching StarGate Universe?
I don't have a deep background in the SG "universe" - sort of followed SG1 up until the other "races" like the blond's "father" (Asgard?) and such. Saw some scattered Atlantis episodes (can never seem to see the 2nd part of the pilot!).
Then I set the DVR to record all of the SG Universe and have seen each one at least once.
My impression is that they are sort of following the cues from the Atlantis pilot - only this time they've got the "wrong people" and instead of a busted down floating city it's a busted down star ship.
I like the Rush character - his self serving and manipulative behavior seems to have been worked out. The lesbo civilian leader grates on my nerves. Eli had all of the trappings of being a human "Jar-Jar Binks" at first, but the way they've complicated his life with his crush on Chloe and Chloe's complicated personal life has added some depth.
I wish they would stop the jerky "24" style camera movements. The action unfolds like ABC's Lost, only in space; and "Lost in Space" has already been done.
I was ready for disappointment - and the whole series is rough; but the way they handled Rush's exile, "death" and return worked and actually managed to surprised me. Lou Diamond Phillip's "redemption" was welcomed. I wondered why they even hired the guy and gave him such high billing when he was never even on the ship.
The busty lieutenant babe probably needs more camera time since this is Sci Fi. I could do without her emotional wrecks, however. But she seems headed to hook back up with Lt. Scott, if Chloe has any sense - and if the fat guy nerds in fandom are to be rewarded.
Eli: "I once hiked all the way from the Storm Mountains to Red Bluff Peak with a full pack."
Chloe: "Red Bluff Peak? Where's that?"
Eli: "World of Warcraft."
