Let it be understood that Apostolic Friends Forum is an Apostolic Forum.
Apostolic is defined on AFF as:


  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

But the gospel message is this... Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

As opposed to what many preach... Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues, and live a holy life (read: according to what is my conviction and interpretation of holy life).

When Peter went to Cornelius' house (Gentile) and preached the Word of God to them, they received the Holy Ghost and Peter commanded them to be baptized. He didn't tell them they had to be circumcised. He didn't tell them they had to submit to all the law of the old covenant. He commanded them to be baptized and left. Later then the judaizers came and caused confusion by requiring that they submit to the old traditions of the law (such as circumcision) and insisted that conformance to their view was required for salvation. The issue was put to rest in Acts 15, but we've sure done a great job of picking it back up.

Biblical standards are things like these:

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 6.9-10

To me, this scripture says: If you are following the traditions of men, formed after worldly principles, that would constitute "not" following Christ. "Traditions of men" in that verse refers specifically to Jewish law, which tells me that even something "religious" can be ultimately worldly, and have nothing to do with following Christ.

My version:

Be cautious, lest any man lead you away with philosophies and empty delusions that were reached by following after man's traditions and worldly principles, instead of following Christ.

Following God = Godliness
Following anything else = Worldliness

Really? You might want to re-read the thread so your comments can reflect reality.

There's a lot of conservative thought that makes a LOT of sense. And most liberal hogwash makes zero sense.

Is your brain on today? You may want to borrow one from your 2 year old for a second. Ok, Bro. Pixler is saying that when someone steals the glory from God (i.e. accepting the praise for themselves) they pervert the image of God. I already pointed out some scripture to back this up. Please review my previous post on this discussion.
