Re: UPC Pastor Convicted of Slander in Pulpit!
This error in judgment is not representative of the fine man I know Mark Fogarty to be. It's unfortunate for the victim, the Warner Robbins church, the Georgia District, and for Fogarty's own family and ministry.
In no way do I excuse his comments, however, if my wife was at a pool with one of my male friends in nothing but a bikini, I would file for divorce. In my opinion, she exercised extremely poor judgment, and showed an unhealthy willingness to mingle with a member of the opposite sex in a very volatile manner.
I do think everyone on this thread have missed the reason why Fogarty did not apologize. First, he may not have felt he did anything wrong. Second, he may have believed an apology would be viewed as an admission of guilt, and used against him in court.
Ironic, I know.

Maybe the wrong woman was called out.

Please tell me you're joking. What happened to the vow "for better or for worse?" Or how about the idea that marriage is forever? Til death do us part? What God hath joined together....
I agree that it's questionable behavior, but divorce worthy? Not even close. I'm more of a fan of the concept of trying to repair and restore, even when something terrible like adultery has actually occurred.
I can see this causing an argument, though. For SURE. My husband would be upset and embarrassed. No doubt. That's why I wouldn't do that to him and I question the motives of a woman who would. I also question the commitment of a man who would divorce for that alone.

First of all there is no indication that it was either the husband or the wife that filed for divorce.
Second there is no indication that divorce was filed for after the bikini and not before incident.
Third there is no indication that the other guys wife was not present with them while they were at the pool.
Fourth we have already brought up the point that him apologizing could have been used against him in court.

Yea seems extreme to me as well.
I guess I wouldn't worry too much about it personally.

Well said MissB!
Though I still don't think her wearing a bikini to a pool is anything remotely out of line (as long as the other guys wife was there or a few mutual friends).
To the rest of the world a bikini is just something you wear to go swimming...
