It's not necessarily prejudice, it's caution.
We live (sorta) in the country, and we've had people stop by before, with a very lame excuse. I've noticed them glancing around, taking things in. That makes me very uncomfortable, and I immediately wonder if they are staking out the place.
We'd love to be completely trusting of everyone, but that's foolish. Unfortunately, bad things do happen, and we are wise to take precautions at times.
Oh, and the people I'm referring to above have all been white, if that matters.
