Re: Church of God General Assembly votes NO to wom
Women that want to act like a man make me sick at my stomach...and believe me I have done a lot of MEN"S jobs in my life but in a lady like manner...maybe that is why so many come to help me...A woman that acts like a man or a man that acts like a woman is completly out of order...however a godly woman will always we welcomed in our church.

I've seen a lot of women that couldn't keep the balance with their authority. Do you think some have overstepped because they felt they had something to prove being a woman? Maybe being on the defensive?
I know a woman preacher that was very used of God, but she would always say something about men rejecting her because she was a woman. If she had left that out of her speech, she may not have put some of the men at odds with her.
One time she talked about coming up to the pulpit and heard a few men booing her as she passed by on her way up the aisle. They were wrong on that account. I'm thinking she should have never mentioned it again.

Well - the reason God made woman second was because after he made man he said - wow I am going to have to give him someone that can think for him and show him what he needs to do or he won't be able to survive!!

Re: Church of God General Assembly votes NO to wom
Yes, I have known women that know no boundries, respect no one and are like a freight train going down a hill without brakes...It ends in hurt and disaster.
There is no need to blast men...lol..I have seen some that did that too...
If someone wants my help I help them if not I keep my peace. Of course I am not one that feels I have to be behind the pulpit every service and asked to the platform every service... and I am aware we all have our different personalities...however men that do not believe in women preachers in any form do RESPECT a woman that is godly even if they do not agree with women preachers. In fact over the years I have had some of them to tell me Sister Alvear when you get up to testify tell us a lot of those missionary stories...and that is about all I do where ever I go.
I would never want to do anything that would harm or leave a sour taste in anyone's mouth...
I don't think a woman has to beat the pulpit to get attention...just being a lady...a godly humble lady....gets respect....

Amen to all! Especially the last paragraph. After all, it's the anointing that breaks the yoke!

I was thinking too, as I'm sure you will attest to, the most beautiful thing about being Holy Ghost filled is when we minister, in the Spirit, to those in need - whether saint or sinner. That is the most rewarding part of the NT church to me!
It shows the person that God is watching, knows all about it and He cares! It is, truly, the ministry of reconciliation..

However, he is an older man and used to things being a certain way, which he has been happy with. I don't blame him for what he has said. He has seen a shift in this country and he is not happy with it. As much as I value the talents and calling of women, they can be particularly annoying when they are in anyway coming across as usurping a man's authority.
And as Sis. Alvear has come across as a godly example of how women are used in ministry, I'm sure she has some stories of strong willed women in place of authority that would have done well to sit down and be in subjection. I sure know I've met a few.
The board of a church I attended had to ask a pastor and his wife to resign because she was bossing everyone around and didn't care how she came across. It was bleeding into the community and that was not a good thing. Men don't like that, especially. Had to oust them before she wrecked any more havoc. Goodness!

This goes back to my thread on my landlord. My friend attributes it to being an "older Mexican"...before anyone blasts that white bigot, my friend is Mexican too or of Mexican descent.
My grandfather was white and he was sort of the same way too. I don't think either men would do harm or wish evil on these people...I don't assume this old man in this thread beat his wife either and perhaps his wife was cool with the whole thing too. But that is a different generation

You are right, Prax. Older men and women lived in different times and things nowadays are not fun or happy times for them. I always keep that in mind when I listen to them speak. I don't try to change them because I can't.
My husband would never sit under a woman pastor. Although, he highly respected Sis. Sharp who ministered in Austin, Texas. I wasn't in church when she was living. A retired woman preacher mentored me when I was a new convert. She taught me faith and how to pray. Some of the hardest things I went through, she was there and gave me a solid foundation for the rest of my life. "Put your trust in Jesus Christ, talk to Him, He will never leave you."

I think, in the case of race or culture, it's a matter of being more isolated. Back then communities were more isolated than they are now
