Very interesting arguments from both sides. Can I get a witness from anyone whom GOD has convicted them of wearing jewelry? Lets see what the Holy Ghost has to say about it.

Some years ago as a young preacher I stopped wearing my wedding ring because I fellowshipped with some people who did not wear jewelry. This was not a conviction --I just did it to avoid possibly offending anyone. I don't know if anyone even noticed that I was not wearing a wedding ring. The only person "offended" was my wife because I was not wearing my wedding ring. I put it back on and don't know if anyone even noticed that I was wearing it.
About conviction and jewelry. Several years ago when i was in a Bible Study group with several others from various churches, one of the women mentioned that she wears ear rings but feels like she should only wear certain ones that are small and not gaudy. That woman was living by a conviction that she had and was not trying to convince any one else to change what they were doing. I think that is a good example of the principle of Romans chapter 14.

Since when is biblical truth based upon one's reception of it? Should we now stop preaching repentance also b'cuz so many reject it???? Many unfortunately also still believe in the trinity, silent baptism, women preacher's, cessationism, etc....which are all VERY CLEARLY opposed to Scripture. Should we just be silent about it because they don't wanna' believe what the Bible instructs?
God told Ezekiel [paraphrased]: "whether they hear or forbear, speak all the words which I put in your heart."

Based upon this line of reasoning, can I wear shorts & a tank top [or no top at all] to preach in if I'm not "convicted" otherwise...according to Rom. 14?? If no, what verses would you appeal to Sam:_______?
What about cigarette's/marajuana [sp]? Does Rom. 14 also apply here as well?
Hello Bruce & Don...still monitoring eh'?!

i actually did, even i wore a necklace and 2 other rings on my other hand. and i wore them for awhile when i started church, but eventually i left the necklaces and rings off except for the wedding ring. and this was before i went to a upci. I was still a trinitarian at the time before i became a apostolic oneness.

well there is a difference in destroying the temple and being modest. not even in the same catagory. and as for the preaching in shorts there is a dude who preaches naked and he stated since we came into the world naked he should preach naked.
God gave us Common sense. He gave us a conscious and He gave us the Holy Spirit.
we know right from wrong. but some people are trying to turn clothing into a heaven or hell issue.
i would ask about those in africa who are naked and starved. there nothing but bones draped with skin. Do you think Gods going to hold there nakedness against them, or hold us accountable for not attempting to feed and cloth them.

With all due respect as well, this would definitely affirm the biblical leading of the Holy Ghost found in the gospel of John and why Paul and Peter would address the issue to begin with in the epistles.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, i.e. the Holy Ghost.
I would note that most standards today come from not only Biblical principles but also convictions of some of the forefathers of the holiness movement. Were they all wrong?

No, I'm not saying the Spirit does not convict people's hearts.
I admit the Spirit may be leading some to not touch alcohol, while not saying the same thing to all people. I'm saying the Spirit may be leading some not to wear jewelry, while not sending the same message to all people. In the latter example, I'm highly skeptical the Spirit's promptings are because of a biblical theology against jewelry (skeptical is not the word, pretty certain it is not), but rather another spiritual issue of the heart that may be related to jewelry for that person.
I do think group conformity and echoing the "man of God" has led many to claim they are "convicted" while not being independently spoken to by the Spirit (usually out of a heart that wants to please the "man of God").
I fully believe, and have experienced, the leading of the Spirit -- even in direct situations that involve behaviors, practices and attitudes in my life.

Contrare' Monfrare'....both topics have to do w/ the temple. One internal, the other external being the ONLY difference. If you object to violating the temple internally, why the allowance externally?
and as for the preaching in shorts there is a dude who preaches naked and he stated since we came into the world naked he should preach naked.
Then he shouldn't be "preaching" in an articulate language either...silly!
God gave us Common sense. He gave us a conscious and He gave us the Holy Spirit......He also gave us a Bible...don't forget that one!
we know right from wrong. but some people are trying to turn clothing into a heaven or hell issue.
Then my question stands: Can we justifiably preach Sun. morning in a tank top & boxer shorts:__________? Y or N?

My friend, anomalies and extreme cases do not set the precedent for the norm. We're not in Africa, but YES, we should help clothe/feed them.

Max, if I may but in....how in the world can you be 'certain' that God would not convict someone against jewelry, when He clearly says in His Word..."not the wearing of gold jewelry, pearls....."?? Seriously...this is beyond me!
but rather another spiritual issue of the heart that may be related to jewelry for that person.

"Obey them that have the RULE OVER YOU, and SUBMIT yourselves to them...." "...whose faith follow..." Max, are you one of those unteachable's that "get their's straight from God"? If so, you would've been one of the murmurer's against Moses/Aaron!
I fully believe, and have experienced, the leading of the Spirit -- even in direct situations that involve behaviors, practices and attitudes in my life.

So, the Spirit "leads" you to everything except what's plainly written in His Word?????
