Which is more painful?

Which do you think is the most painful, a physical pain or an emotional pain?

Re: Which is more painful?

Tough question I suppose. I do know one can get so emotionally distraught that they want to physically die.

Yes I have seen that as well.

Usually mostly when a spouse loses their loved one either through death or even divorce.

Re: Which is more painful?

It really depends on the intensity of the pain and each individual. The physical pain I've experienced hasn't been as deep or ongoing as some emotional pain, but I haven't suffered with the intense physical pain that some have, either, so I can't really compare the two adequately.

Flu v pain of betrayal-definitely emotional pain is higher
crucifixion v pain of betrayal-physical pain is higher, I'm sure

I'm a big wimp when it comes to pain ; but unless it's an ongoing disease as a rule the physical pain is temporary.

Emotional pain can affect someone for a lifetime.

Re: Which is more painful?

I suppose it depends on which is deeper and lasts longer....

Re: Which is more painful?

I know I have experience both.

When my brother that is young than I am died suddenly from a heart attack, it was such a shock that my heart literally ached.

But I also have experience, more than once, intense pain that would not go away without major surgery.

It is hard for me to decide which is the greatest. I guess at the time whichever you are dealing with at that moment is of course the greatest at that time. But which last the longest? Usually, emotional.
