Many on here are really good at "indirect insult" or sarcasm. They know how to word their post so as to insult someone without just outright calling them stupid. They use words like "ingnorance" or "assinine" and phrases like "one would have to be stupid to think....". They may just insult a persons belief or interpretation instead of directly insulting the person. Which really is the same thing and the poster knows it. Thats the problem, most here know that what they are typing is insulting in nature but word it so that its not an obvious infraction. They use the excuse of "thats not what I said" when the real stupity lies in thinking we really dont know what was meant to be said.
There is no respect here for each other. And that goes for both sides of most debates.

In any discussion or forum there are two elements in play: Ideas and People. You appear to have confused the two.
I can say that an idea of yours is "ridiculous" without intending to insult you personally. It's when a person's ego (their perception of "self") extends beyond natural bounds that they tend to feel like their feet are getting stepped on. Ideas are fair targets here. That's the way it should be.
The ideas under discussion on this thread began with a playful insult. Then a poster offered a more sobering question. No one appears to have been personally targeted for an insult. I shared a rather painful experience of my own as an example of why I am hesitant to leap into other people's lives with advice - however well meaning.
I suppose that the pain I experienced resonated with others. Perhaps others either acknowledged having experienced similar pain or they simply reacted to a painful stimuli - a thought or memory in their own mind. Either way, the poster on AFF is not responsible for the thoughts that race through your mind nor are they generally responsible for the feelings that stir in your heart.
We should all try and avoid projecting our own thoughts and feelings upon others. For myself, if I think you are a simpleton and "just plain ignorant" I will come right out and say so. I've got the long list of Infractions to prove it. If you've only imagined that I have "insulted" you, then it's a matter of your own imagination and thoughts; not mine.
