Tritheism illustrated

Not trying to start another debate on "the godhead"
and not trying to steal something from someone else, but
James Anderson has posted a good link on Facebook.

Here it is

There is a problem (in my opinion) with much of the Post-Nicene language and especially much of the artwork regarding the Doctrine of the Trinity. To most casual observers it DOES appear to be at least inherently tri-theistic.

This isn't what Tertullian had in mind when he coined the phrase "trinitas" to begin with.

Interestingly enough though, the 2 July, 2010, blog entry at that same site regales "Bro." Frank Bartleman and his work "for the cause of the Kingdom."

Bartleman was an ardent Trinitarian himself when the "New Issue" came up. He wrote against "Oneness" in http://frankbartleman-deity.blogspot.com/ where he quotes historian and theologian Philip Schaff as saying:

"But the tri-personality of God is not a numerical or essential trinity of three beings (like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), for this would be tritheism; nor is it, on the other hand merely a three-fold aspect and mode of manifestation, in the Sabellian or Sweden-borgian sense, but it is a real objective and eternal, though ineffable distinction in the one Divine being, with a corresponding three-fold revelation of this being in the works of creation, redemption and sanctification."

One of the "Old Landmarks" of the Apostolic Faith was the inclusion of our Trinitarian brethren, men like "Bro." Frank Bartlemen.

Actually, they used to call themselves "Apostolic Faith" back on Azusa Street. There is a picture of that old stable with that painted on the side. When Howard Goss was ordained his license dated August 26, 1906 and signed by Charles Parham has the name Apostolic Faith Movement and says that he is connected with the Apostolic Faith Congregation in Houston, Texas.

An organization called The Apostolic Faith Church (AFC) is still in existence today with headquarters in Portland, Oregon. It was established as the Apostolic Faith Mission there by Florence Crawford in 1906 in conjunction with Bro. Seymour and Azusa Street.

Both of these Apostolic organizations were trinitarian. The Parham group no longer exists but and the group head quartered in Portland is still trinitarian.

Re: Tritheism illustrated

The term "ineffable" in an above quote seems to take any real meaning out of the term "trinity."
ineffable:
1. too great or intense to be expressed in words; unutterable
2. too sacred to be uttered
3. indescribable; indefinable

Sounds kind of like its the perfect word to describe God... But I guess that would take all the meaning out of the term "God" wouldn't it?
