Id have no problems with them scanning cars coming in, but allow the drivers to get out first.
They can make a car wash like drive through where the cars go through on their own

I would have to check law and see but I don't think there is any problem checking people when they come into the country or when entering a private facility like a power plant.
Both are places that have certain requirements for entry. A restaurant could scan you before entering the restaurant because it is a private place of business and they have the right to choose who enters their establishment or what is required to do so. But they would need to let you know up front and not do it without a persons knowledge.

I think at border crossings they randomly select cars anyways

Re: X-Ray Vans: What are your thoughts?
I can see them being used in places like a border crossing or for secure access to some sites, but just driving around and dosing the general population with radiation is wrong. I don't suppose that even the Feds could afford to do too much of this type of random snooping.
We'll probably only see such things deployed at the borders or maybe going into some airport parking structures. The fact that they're being mounted on mobile vans indicates that there will probably never be as many available as some policy makers might want.

Re: X-Ray Vans: What are your thoughts?
I have seen something like this used on the TV show, Border Wars.

Re: X-Ray Vans: What are your thoughts?
Haven't read the thread, but I am not too alarmed by the use of such technology in public spaces.
Question: Does a panel van parked in Madison Square have the same privacy rights as your home? I think it's different.
The X-ray vans are certainly a sign of the times we live in.

Right. Sounds good to me.

Those are used on the borders to search for drugs. Some of you are paranoid.

Have you seen what these Xray devices reveal? They see through your close and the views get a picture of your anatomy

Many states view the inside of your vehicle is viewed as an extension of your home. But, that thought aside, if a policeman comes up to your vehicle he must have your permission to search said vehicle unless he has proper warrant. to do so. I believe the law states that they may search your vehicle without your permission if they smell drugs etc but, beyond that, they must have a paper warrant to search your vehicle.
Would you not consider it to be a search of your vehicle to scan it and see what is inside it?
But... you are correct. The scan vans are a sign of the times we live in. We live in a time when the personal rights and privacy recognized as beyond the power of government in the Constitution are viewed as something that we honor when we can and forget about when we want to.
