Republicans will be able to say that he neither withdrew nor went all in and that dallying around doing neither could be a real sour spot for American voters.
We are tired of war. Democrats wont be able to say "republicans got us into this" because all those Republicans are gone.

I agree and I don't see Obama changing from where he stands. That has made Americans nervous and as much as he would need the Independents in his camp. I feel he lost them a long time ago.
