I would call 911 right then and tell them, get here quick because I have beaten the living snot out of a confessed child molester!

If someone confessed to molesting a child, there is nothing to do but to turn them in and inform the child's parents.

But address the alternative, Coop: What if it is your best friend, and he confesses to an inclination NOT to something he has already done. What would you do?

Slow down and read the entire text. I NEVER said I would not want to report a pervert. The thread discussion is about accountability. As Mark pointed out, how could anyone be accountable to someone when their problem is child molestation because he would want to turn them in to the law. I agree with him but I was pointing out the fact that ministers are not required by law to report a confession from a penitant.
I think all child molestors deserve prison and I abhor the thought of anyone covering it up. In fact, there was case not to long ago in the Houston area and I personally believe Pastor BT should be locked up for covering up the child molesting cardiologist.

Seriously... if someone confessed they had those desires or temptations to me I'd ask them to seek help and stay on their case till they did... and that said, I'd be watching them like a hawk.
This is quite a topic... because I'm much less leniant and merciful and longsuffering when it comes to children... even when it's only desires that haven't been followed through with.

After I posted that, I realized you would probably think I was talking to you... I knew you were only stating the laws in your area. So please forgive me but I knew you weren't personally endorsing this.

I'm sorry I didn't make that plainer in my post. Sometimes I just forget when I'm quoting... that I'm not just quoting the thought itself but the person.

I completely agree with this approach.

Many people have misplaced their loyalties--there is an obligation to protect the victim or potential victim first.

Coop - you are better than me. I would do more than beat 'em and I could care less if 911 was called. Let the creep die.

Agreed. I would put a private eye on the sicko. The law will not take action on suspicion but they will a photo from a private eye.
