Re: Not Ashamed
Thank God that He left us a book...and in that book we find the words of eternal life...I think of John 5:39...
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. and then..."
To the law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."— Isaiah 8:20
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11...
“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” - 1 John 4:16

2 Timothy 1:12
King James Version (KJV)
12For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Re: Not Ashamed
I am thinking of some of the things OUR LORD did call us to do or be...Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
1. Deny himself...wear sleeves in my clothes is easy....the denying is hard....taking up the cross is hard...The bonds of Christ is something that the suffering christians can tell us about..
Drinking of His cup...being baptized with His baptism...oh...so many things to being a real christian...May God help us all...to love to forgive...to pray...to lift up holy hands...

Arrogance feeds this monster of Creed, and pride is the shelter of this dogmatic and critical idea that protects the secret sins of anger, hate, and discord amongst brethren.
The only way to keep this above Tradition alive is to condemn all, while allowing mercy and forgiveness to be thrown to the Religious dogs of war. There is a way out of this trap; find the mirror of Truth, the ugly Truth about one’s self, where men are revealed in absolute honesty.
Friend, what makes you so special, peculiar, and separate from the World? Do you live in a cave? Does God see you above others because your “Group” is obedient beyond most in Christendom? Are your long sleeves and treeless Christmases giving you some kind of preferred passage into Heaven?
Thank God, the Cross of Calvary can bridge past the expanse of shallow Faith and Understanding, and there is nothing I can do to earn my passage into the arms of a God who knows my every weakness; including my weakness and struggle to comprehend the Bible.
We are at the complete mercy of a Creator, whose limitless capacity is beyond the furthest star, and all of us will be found wanting in the end.

Re: Not Ashamed
What some consider modesty (standards) is just nothing more than their own self righteous attempt to be holy outside the finished work of Christ. Notice how I said some, not all. For some, they live as they do, not to merit holiness, but as the scriptures teach, because Christ is holy and imputed His righteousness to us. Yet, those who are true hardcore legalists preach their standards from poor hermeneutical understanding of scripture, and cannot tell the straightforward from the parable.
One can have modesty in dress, and have a hateful, prideful, arrogant, unusable spirit where God cannot use them for His glory. One can wear long sleeves and have longer sins of self righteousness. One cannot cut her hair, yet cuts off grace and mercy at every turn. One can wear the marks of religion, but have not Christ, such are they which have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof.
Let me state again, that I say some are like this, but not all.

A big "halleluja, AMEN!"

Your thinking, along with others who agree, just might be what rescues those thrown to the curb by the those other people...

Re: Not Ashamed
I look into the mirror each day and ask myself the question...would the mother of Jesus wear this if she lived in my day...(good little thought for ladies) I sure would not want to dress or LIVE in a way that would make heaven uncomfortable. HOWEVER let it go down a s me saying this Dresses to not make us holy for if that was the case then the nuns, moslem ladies and a bunch more would be holy...IT is GOD that makes us HOLY for HE is HOLY...the angel said to Mary... Luke 1:35 ASV
American Standard Version
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God.
We have the Holy Ghost in us to...with all reverence I want to use the term..THE HOLY THING IN US....of course it is Jesus in us...so it stands to reason if He lives within us we should do nothing that would offend Him or cause Him shame.
That is no doubt why the BIBLE talks so much about the heart...Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life (Bible)
<< Matthew 15 >>
New American Standard Bible
19“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20“These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
New International Version (©1984)
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
New Living Translation (©2007)
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
English Standard Version (©2001)
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it.
King James Bible
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life
There is no use in worrying about anything UNTIL the heart is right....
