HOWEVER!! I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS!!!
1) what will conservatives do when TV is no more??? Internet and TV will merge within a few years, so, what kind of a stand will a conservative pastor make then ??
2) I have relatives who do not have a TV ...BUT! their kids download TV shows onto their IPODS!!! now what ???? now what ????????????????
i recall 25 years ago, conservatives were preaching against "monitors". now the kids today don't even know what a monitor is AND , basically , if you have a computer with a DVD player, it's really the same as having a" monitor". would anyone agree ???

you have some good points thats why in my church my pastor said he is no longer just praching against tv or video because you can ge this on your computers cell phones game stations and whatever else ,and thats why he preaches against the sin of hollywood in general.

I am NOT the least bit sorry for the stand I have taken against television and Hollywood video through the years, true technology has passed us and we can't make rules fast enough to keep up. However I still make a strong stand on anything that borders Hollywood type entertainment(and worse.)

I personally was involved in a church where the pastor attempted to exercise autocracy. His failing was that he too was subject to the manipulations of unscrupulous people and his family suffered rather badly as well.
You've no doubt seen some of the "example cases" that so-called anti-cult" groups have put up on the web. In all of the notorious cases of "abuse" it was because of a lone "conservative" pastor who was simply trying to "follow his conscience" in the way he managed his church. These cases have brought a great deal of shame upon the UPC fellowship and on Apostolics in general.
Because of the television ban we have not had to suffer humiliation from the much celebrated scandals of televangelists. But we really have never needed television to humiliate ourselves in public. What better way to stifle these abuses then to have our pastors accountable to the people they purportedly are serving?
|
that is why a pastor need elder from the outside of the church, with thire names put in their by-laws for their own protection because even good men can fall, but they dont need the church they are pastoring to determine how they are going to run a church.and being on tv is just going to stop people more from preaching agaist sin because the pastor will once again dance around things that we stand for in the upc.(and im not talking about the plan of salvation)

I also heard, refferring to getting tv on your cell, that soon you will be able to get a full pornographic video on your phone, if you cant do it already! I agree with hometown_guy, its now about circumcision of the heart. Its now a matter of what to allow and what not to allow.

My comments simply said what are they afraid of? It does sound to me like they are running from a "problem". Their solution, disaffiliation. Your thoughts?

Actaully, it kinda goes like this...
The "Ultra Cons", as you so call them, have been on the verge of disaffiliating for quite a while here, and this is due to the fact that if we aren't going to participate in their activities, thier functions, then why pay dues to be apart of something we do not condone!?!? And also pay money to be apart of it? The resolution 4 just pushed them over the edge. We just have backbone to stand up for whats right!

Don't feel like the lone ranger Elder E, the Pharisees had the same problem.
