If you are not willing or are afraid to communicate to your pastor as to your whereabouts, there is a serious relationship problem. It is just common courtesy. If you trust him to be your pastor and feel that he loves you, why wouldn't you want him to know where you are and that everything is ok. So that he is not up on the platform trying to concentrate on getting his sermon together wondering if you're in a car accident or something.

I agree with this. Our pastor just preached last night about how the church is one body. Every person (part) of that body is important and necessary in order for the body to function properly. We all have a place of importance, regardless of how insignificant we may think we are. If a part of our physical body just decided not to 'show up' and perform the function it was created/called to do, our bodies would not be functioning at its full potential. The same can be applied to the church. No, it's not REQUIRED that you tell your pastor if you will be gone, but it is a courtesy. And yes, my pastor does worry when he sees people gone. He's a bit of a worry-wart anyway. .

Re: Now I've heard it all
I guess I also don't understand the mentality that one doesn't have to tell the Pastor anything, that our walk with God is between us and God, we don't need a Pastor/Preacher telling us what's what, we can seek out our own salvation, and on and on. . .why do you suppose God appointed the positions of pastors/preachers if no one needed them? Why does God call men to these positions if we can all just manage on our own?
I've never understood that. Yes, some things are between us and God, but I thank God EVERYDAY for my Pastor. He is someone I go to when I need guidance, advice and sometimes encouragement. He has helped me in ways I can't begin to express. He cares about me, the saints, the church. . .when we go through something, he's there to listen, to pray, to do what he can. God help me the day I think I no longer need a Pastor. (don't shoot me, just expressing my opinion!)

My first Pastor was the one to show me what I needed to do to be saved. With Bible Teaching.
I respect him for what he taught me.
He was Honest
He walked Right, Talked Right and some say Spit right.
Every one in town Knew who he was.
And you weren't ashamed for people in town to know, you went to his Church.
He was well Repected in the Community.
A Man of High Integrity
If he told you something you knew you could believe it with out a shadow of doubt.
