Noted foremost scholar on race in the US, Henry Gates Jr, was seen breaking into a home by a witness who called police. Police responded and now Sergeant James Crowley is not only having to fight this scholars claims of racism ... but our very own President BHO put his uninformed 2 cents into the mix last night by saying the white police officers acted stupidly.
Again, read the news links below. President BHO should apologize to this police officer for ignorantly siding with the scholar.
From all accounts, this officer is respected by both fellow white and black officers. This was also the officer who tried "desperately" to save the live of Boston Celtics basketball player Reggie Lewis (who was black). The officer gave CPR and tried saving this man's life. Unfortunately Lewis died.
Crowley, the officer, said Gates, the scholar, became angry and confrontational when approached by the police. Gates demanded names and badge numbers and yelled, "This is what happens to a black man in America," and "You don't know who you're messing with," before being arrested.
My take ... the "scholar" was right to be arrested. He did break into his own home, and after verifying it was his home, did he thank the officers for their vigilance? No, he went on a rant and was arrested for disorderly conduct.
The officer didn't tase him. They didn't beat him down. From all reports, the arrest was by the books.
The President owes this officer an apology for stupidly making a statement on something he didn't know about.
The scholar needs to be put in check. He was looking for trouble after the officers came. He knew it was his chance to get more book deals and money from television interviews.
IMO, both the scholar and the President do disservice to true racism and race relations with their stupid and ignorant remarks.
