Go to the bar across the street and see if you find misery.. or good times....people have fun in sin until God begins to draw them and of course some run to death instead of God
Dr. Vaughn,
I must adamantly disagree with you my friend. Being a delivered Meth Addict and Alcoholic, I know about the misery of sin firsthand... I knew many other sinners back in the day, who were miserable as well. My best friend, Johnnie, took his own life at the young age of only 36 years old via an overdose, because he was so miserable. Sure, there are times which are fun, but sin is a miserable, miserable existence and only increases in misery with time.
Now, I must admit that in the very beginning, much of my sin was fun. It was the fun that, I suppose, kept drawing me back, but once the sinful addictions had their hold on me, I was a tormented, depressed, and hurting man. I was far from having a good time.
There are many people who you will see who are actively using or drinking and partying in clubs who look like they're having a great time (and some are), but many of those who look like they're having the time of their life are really so miserable and the look of fun, is nothing but a facade temporarily enhanced by the drugs or alcohol to try and hide the pain that they're really in.
Not wanting to argue for the sake of arguing, but after living that lifestyle for 17 years, I absolutely know what I'm talking about on this one.
There is no such thing as a miserable sinner.... until the Spirit of God begins to draw theml... then and only then will you find a miserable sinner... all other sinners are having the time of their life... THE PLEASURES OF SIN.... it is pleasurable... except for the elect who God draws unto himself... if they are out in sin.. once this light begins to shine on their path and they come into recognition of the true place in Christ.. then the Spirits drawing will make them miserable as they must decide now which pull to obey
Sin is pleasurable BUT it doesn't satisfy the inner man. There is always a looking for something more, something else, a higher rush.....the elusive something that cannot be found outside of God.
After awhile, after the "season", sin takes it toll on us. We start reaping what we have sowed. Many young folks believe they can't have fun unless it includes a six pack of beer and before they know it some of them become alcoholics.
The Bible tells us there is no peace to the wicked. I think the grace of God is for ALL mankind, some respond and some don't to the goodness of God in the time of their visitation. By God's foreknowledge from before the foundation of the world, He knows who will respond and calls them to be His elect. But He wants everyone to be delivered from sin for Christ died for the whole world.

Prov 23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
30 Those who linger long over wine, Those who go to taste mixed wine.
31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly;
32 At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter perverse things.
34 And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea, Or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.
35 "They struck me, but I did not become ill; They beat me, but I did not know it. When shall I awake? I will seek another drink."

Until you wake up the next morning. It is called a hang over!!! LOL, for those of us who have been there.
REALITY. There is no pleasure in sin when the drunk lays down at night and the haunting, dark, horrid and oppressive spirit settles down on your heart, pushing your shoulders into the bed and robbing you of sleep. The darkness of you own soul rises up and it seems as if the flames of hell are already dancing at your feet. No peace, no joy remains. The good times at the bar are a hollow memory and all things are meaningless. Friends are gone.
