I'm new here, but I admire the ones who give genuine, thoughtful answers, and use scriptures to back up their position when appropriate.

Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
Funny! I was just thinking this morning about all the people on AFF that I have the highest respect for. There are, in fact, only a very few who I would say don't fit into that catagory. VERY few
And no, they are not all ultra cons. MOW certainly fits that catagory very well. MichaelPhelps, One Accord, Renda, Sherri, Tamor, HeavenlyOne, SteveHoover, and on and on and on........... Because they know where they've been. And they know where they are now. And they are fine with it. Maybe the past wasn't perfect. But they don't whine about it. They are secure in the belief that they are in the place RIGHT NOW where GOD wants them to be. And that's enough.
What brought this about? I am reading a book by the man who started "Give Kids the World", a program at Disney for Make-A-Wish kids. He tells his story in. He was a Jew in WW2 and the atrocities that he suffered make anything that ANY of us go thru look like a cake walk. But he took that suffering and persecution and made it into something positive and wonderful!!
So I was thinking that sometimes we, as Christians, whine about how other Christians treated us. We act as if we deserved better. Maybe we did. But why can't we just dig deep and get a good attitude and turn our pasts into a stepping stone for a future where we can be used by God for HIS work?
I've seen so many on here do just that. Those are the ones I hold in highest regard! Thanks for being great examples for the rest of us.

Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
I've resisted using names simply because there are some who don't think they fit into some "category." I'm not thinking lib/mod/con, I'm just thinking about folks here in either of those area who fit the "bill" I described.
The truth is that I am immeasurably blessed to be the Sr. Pastor of a church full of people like I described. Not all alike. A few look 50's Pentecostal and some look "wild" but they do co-exist and worship together out of a genuine love for God and each other. It really is uncanny! There have also been those who could not stand the diversity which, in their mind, became adversity and felt to move on. Again, such is life. Really hate it when that happens! It hurts, but God has a way of putting people where they need to be.
Just finished a meeting with a "new" lady who really wants to do the right thing in a situation. I didn't condemn her for getting off course and encouraged her to know that that the Biblical "course" was the best possible one for her. Others may have "stoned" her and I probably would have years ago, myself. However, she really just needed the Lord! I've found that when people really get Him, everything is so much easier!!!

LOL! and just FYI, we haven't been Methodists for the past 3 years. We changed to the Swanton Alliance Church at that time. There were more church problems at the Methodist church at that time than we cared to be involved in. That is not what worshipping every Sunday is all about. It's about God, not church politics. So after almost 20 years (for me) and over 50 years for Walt, we pulled out and changed churches. It's been a great move tho. We have no regrets at all. And we still have friends in the Methodist church - people who might not have remained our friends if we had stayed there.
