Also rule number one in dealing with a recruiter is
THEY WILL LIE THEIR BUTTS OFF TO GET YOU IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rule number two in dealing with a recuriter is
refer to rule number 1.

I recomend the military for any young man who is NOT disciplined, who doesnt have a desire or aptitiude for college, who does not have positive role modles in his life.

For young women, the reasons for joining the military are even fewer. If you are worried she might come up pregnant DO NOT let her join the military!!!!!!!!

The military is a great place for a young person to get their life in order if there is a serious lack of order. It is a HORRIBLE place to send a young person who is in love with God and has a solid direction.

Any kid who has solid direction that wants to join the military needs to be counciled to go to college and join as an officer.

I would be more than happy to talk to any parent with a kid about to make these decisions. I would want them to know I will ask some hard questions of them and their parenting and for them not to be offended if I seem to cross some lines, I promise to be respectful, but I serveed in the military. I know what it does to you.

I have counciled members of my youth group (when I was the youth pastor) to join the army and others I did everything in my power to keep them from joining.

The reason to, and not to are very individual.

I just stumbled across this. Interestingly, someone on our staff just had a HORRIBLE experience with her son joining the marines in which the recruiter "lied his butt off" to get him to join. Only an incredible act of God got him out AFTER he had already signed a contract. I'm going to show her this post. Wow.

Re: Joining Marines?

My son joined the Marines and it has been very good for him!

He scored high on the ACT test, but didn't have the discipline to do well in college. He thought his major was partying and drinking!

When dad cut off his college free ride, he came home and joined the Marines.

The Marines totally changed him in a good way. He is now a very hard worker and has become a staff sergeant. He has flourished in the disciplined environment.

The Marines paid him $45,000 (tax free) to re-enlist for four more years. He will be out in three more years unless he re-enlists again! He will have special degrees and licenses by then to help him get a great job in the civilian world.

He is now an expert in tilt-wing technology, which is brand new for upcoming civilian craft. In other words, the Marines helped to teach him a craft that will greatly benefit him in the future.

It has NOT been good for him spiritually! He doesn't attend church as much as I would like. He knows what is right, so I pray that someday he'll find his way back.

Re: Joining Marines?

My son joined the Navy. The recruiters will promise a lot but get it in writing!

My son isn't going to boot camp until they change his job. They talked him into being a corpsman and he had no clue what it even was all about. He wanted to get into a welding position or something similar, but they said his scores were too high for that.

Corpsman...that's not even close to what he wants to be. Thankfully, he isn't slated to go to boot camp until next July!
