Re: "What is the Gospel"

The Gospel is all the GOOD NEWS from the beginning of our journey by the cross all the way to the ultimate place of spiritual maturity in Christ. How do I know? Hebrews 3 through 4 compared the exodus journey from Egypt through into Canaan by a GOSPEL being preached to them which corresponds to our need to believe OUR GOSPEL and go all the way into entrance in "the rest."
Hebrews 4:2-3 KJV For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (3) For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Re: "What is the Gospel"

The Gospel is:

The incarnation, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and how that in our lives.

Luke 24:45-49

Phillip preached the Gospel to the Eunich and he desired to be baptized.
Peter also.

Re: "What is the Gospel"

Looks like we are finally all coming to somewhat of a consensus on this board!!!!

So if the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, are we really fulfilling the great commission (Mk 16:16-, Mt 28:19-)?

Re: "What is the Gospel"

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Saul of Tarsus knew what opened His blind eyes. It was the gospel, the power of God.1 Cor.:23,24

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

1 Cor. 1:30,31
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

That is exactly it!!!

Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, (Death) and be baptized (Burial) every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.(Resurrection)

Re: "What is the Gospel"

I think it's more than the death, burial and resurrection. It is all the good news from those details through to spiritual maturity. Again, Heb 4:1-2.

I believe the Good News encompasses everything because of the Death, Burial and Resurrection. Hebrews 4:2 says, "For unto us was the Gospel preached...."

Whatever soil it lands on, is another story, IMO. It still must begin, always be honored, brought to mind why we are here and why we continue in the faith - the Death, Burial and the Resurrection.

In that sense, yes. It is applying the death, burial and resurrection all the way through our lives until we go to glory.

Re: "What is the Gospel"

The original question is an excellent one.

As a result, there seems to be a number of opinions concerning what the gospel is, and Acts 2:38 seems to be the favorite verse to reference. But, was it the preaching of Acts 2:38 what got Jesus nailed to the cross in the first place? At best, that view seems a little questionable. And, just what are the glad tidings (the good news), the 'gospel of Paul' (Romans 16:25, 2 Timothy 2:8) that he thought so important to share and how does that relate to the gospel of Jesus Christ?

The question: What is the gospel (the good news) concerning the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3; 16:19)*, the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24; 21:42-45)*, the ordained kingdom of Jesus Christ (Matthew 20:21)*, and how is the gospel these three kingdoms related? And, why should anyone be interested?

What was it that Peter spent so much time preaching on before he was asked that famous question in Acts 2:38? Then, how did 3,000 men get baptized in a single afternoon, and why were they instructed do it?

What motivates people (me, you) to follow after Jesus Christ? Out of love? Why do we love Him? Or, out of what we can get from Him? What do we expect Him to do (or to get/provide) for us? Or out of fear? Who's looking for fire insurance?

What was the gospel that Jesus Christ and the 70 preached, and that ultimately resulted in Jesus being judged, condemned, and crucified in my place, and explain why that should be called 'good' news.

* Using only some references found in the book of Matthew for the sake of consistency in citing.
----------------------------

Really, I am not looking for, nor expecting any published responses (answers) to these questions. They are simply posed here for personal reflection and mediation. That is, do we really know and understand what it is that we profess to believe? Or, do we simply repeat what we have been instructed to think and say in the hope that we have not been deceived, even unintentionally?

My personal opinion is, “Think outside the bun.”
