Yes I did bring it up. That was the whole point. Im just wondering now if his skin color had anything to do with it.

The Landlord did not bring his skin color up with me.

Yes, that is why I am asking, do you think that comment is enough to make someone that nervous?

Do you guys think, if my visitor was some other race maybe there would be less nervousness?

I think if it had been a young white guy, a stranger, and he looked around and made the comment about money - I think your landlord would have been just as nervous.

You mean he didn't already have a dead bolt on his door?????? Maybe you should be happy that he got nervous for whatever reason and decided to finally put a deadbolt on his door.

What is wrong about a man installing a new lock when he sees the need. I'd guess he put up the lock because of the conversation he had with the man, not the color of the man's skin. You're not trying to make some kind of political correctness discussion out of this are you? Race is not relevent here.

Re: What Do you guys think of this?

I have found that people from the previous generation seem to be more inclined to racist thoughts than the newer generation. Possibly because they grew up with it being more prevalent. That is just my observation in my area, your results may vary.

In this particular case, it could have been because he was black. It could also have been because he said he made a lot of money. If that were said to me, that would have thrown up a red flag. Of course, our house was broken into twice at our old place. It could also have been that the landlord was meaning to change his lock anyway, and this was just a catalyst for it. You'll probably never know unless you broach the subject with him.

Baron,

His response hurt no one, but his response reflected an ugly prejudice.

If I were Prax, I'd also be offended in bringing a friend over, now the landlord feels like he must deadbolt the door of his bedroom. This reflects a lack of trust for Praxeas as well. At the bare minimum, his actions reflect a lack of trust in Praxeas' judgment.

How was the young man's remark tasteless?

It appears that it is comfortable to pre-judge the landlord's thoughts & intents. Prejudice... is to pre-judge... and it would appear that there is no delay in doing so to this landlord.

The situation is this:

My landlord is an older gentleman but has never been one to be worried about someone breaking into the house. When I was bout to leave I just felt the tension in the air. His son later told me that the gentleman I invited over said sometime to the effect of "you have a lot of money".

The next day my landlord put a dead bolt on his bedroom door. This kinda disturbs me.

So why was there tension in the air?

Was the a/c broken or something?

I say what caused the tension was the remark made by the young black man-- a young guy they did not know, who Prax probably did not forewarn them about.

There are several stereotypes prevalent among some folks.

1) Jews will laways attempt to argue you down, or "jew you down" on the price you set for your goods, and

2) Blacks will steal your goods everytime if you give them the chance.

Number 2 is the prejudice that is applicable here-- given what Prax has revealed about the situation.
