I'm not saying that this sort of thing might not happen, but I don't see anything in scripture about Goldflakes appearing.

There they can find plenty of fault.
It reminded me of the charismatic nonsense of the 90's. I told my friend to wait it out... watch for any strange manifestations. Would be a shame if people started making animal noises.
This isn't the first time (nor will it be the last) that these types of "signs and wonders" have appeared. Years ago, a certain evangelist claimed oil supernaturally appeared on his hands. A bloody cross was said to have formed on his forhead. The Brownsville Reivival in Pensacola claimed "gold dust" was seen in the air (someone investigating said it was actually tiny bits of gold colored plastic that was being circulated thru the air conditioning system).
I don't doubt that God can and does (on rare occasions) do "signs and wonders", but I'm skeptical when those signs seem to bring glory to a preacher rather than to God. If God can produce gold fillings in teeth, He can just as easily recreate a tooth. He doesn't need gimmicks and magic tricks.
I remember a "sign" that appeared on occasion in our country church years ago. When the power of God was really falling (meaning, when a lot of people were shouting, dancing, jumping up and down, and running the aisles), a supernatural "cloud of witness" would appear over peoples heads. As a young, gullible Christian I was amazed by the thin haze that I saw myself. Several years later, while cleaning the church, I discovered the source of this "cloud". The carpet was dirty. Really dirty. All the activity would kick up dust that hung in the air. Gives new meaning to the old song, "Theres a Stranger comin' down that Dusty Road".
Another sign: A "sweet smelling savor" was noticed in the air at times (summer months). The pastor said that was God showing us that our worship was a "sweet smelling savor" to Him. Funny how I never noticed this smell was never detected in the winter months and only when a side door was open (we had no AC then). Funny how I never connected the smell to the honey suckle vines that grew in profusion just outside that side door.
Excellent post. I have no doubt about the power of God and his ability to do supernatural things. The thing is to respect that without being gullible to every wacko claim that comes along.

Titus2woman on AFF
"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

How can you tell which ones are wacko and which ones aren't?
