I have not been in a lot of Apostolic Churches. I have seen gifts working in several what I would consider strict Conservative Churches. Not sure if I have ever been in a liberal Apostolic Church.

Re: Jacob's Ladder Rant Thread - Libs, Con, Etc.
In the OP church I attend now, I have never heard standards preached. And I have been going there about a year.
There is a new converts class where it may be brought up, I don't know though as I didn't go to it.
I have seen the gift of tongues and interpretations several times. If other gifts have been in operation I wasn't aware, but I'd guess so.
When I attend church I conform to their standards out of respect for them.
I know they have standards as it is evident on the platform, although not strongly evident in the congregation as there are people who come to church wearing various garb. I know the standards regardless as I used to attend an ultracon church years ago.
I wear a long, attractive skirt and top to church. When i go to work I usually wear casual clothes, pants, jeans, ect.
I'm also growing my hair out, but that is out of a conviction that it needs to be long.
I choose to go there because the Spirit of God meets us very sweetly there. The Word of God is preached. And, I enjoy being there.
I'm not sure if my response is appropriate to your rant, as I'm not completely sure what you are upset about.

Oh, as far as revival preaching. Many revivals have been born from people meeting regularly for prayer. Prayer and fasting and bible reading are tools for preparing the heart for faith, and for a person to be used by the Spirit of God. A person marked by prayer and fasting will carry the presence of God with them in such a way that people will be receptive to want God wants to do in their lives.

I'm betting that probably the greatest thing we could do is put down our sectarian/denominational differences and bitterness and begin to seek the face of God, and pray for his kingdom to come and his will to be done on this earth, for our generation.

You know my stand but I would never go to a church that preached like that all the time nor would I attend one that did not preach that.

I know you have more sense than that. I'm just expressing what I've encountered.

Re: Jacob's Ladder Rant Thread - Libs, Con, Etc.
JL, I agree with your rants. I've "been there, done that" from a congregational standpoint. Where I used to attend, it was as if the doctrine of standards/appearance was preached on at least once a month. Still, to this day, I can't figure out who the "spirit" was directing the pastor to preach that for. It wasn't me, and nobody else I saw appeared to have been in need of hearing such message as often as we heard it.
Revival? Oh, sure...we heard that all the time. No problem there. But, usually there was some way that the doctrine of appearance was fromulated into the revival message. Still, to this day I ask myself: is the revival preached of meant to revive the church or harvest the world? Guess it depends on the misson of the pastor and congregation.
I kinda like the mission of the one I'm sitting under at the moment...
