In most countries, this time of year is considered one of the four most important. They say that at the spring and fall equinox and the summer and winter solistice the veil between the visible and invisible are at its thinnest. It is a time to give honor to the spirits and the departed as they can be manifest at this time. Sadly this is still seen in majority Catholic countries and the U.S. where people from those countries have moved. This is why we have Cinco de Mayo (Day of the Dead I believe) celebrations. The Catholic Church never removed the pagan from the people.

Cinco de Mayo is in May and has to do with a Mexican battle. Dia de los Muertos is Day of the Dead.

I just don't like Halloween at all, or anything about it. I just feel like it glorifies the dark side of life - ghosts, witchcraft, sorcery, etc. All things that God said to leave alone. I think knowing what happens in other cultures during this season has always made us even more hard against it.

Anyway, I know a lot of Christians participate in it, but I just can't. I think the whole thing is uber-creepy.

I knew Cinco De Mayo was in May, but I could not remember the other day in Spanish. It is currently being celebrated in numerous RCC countries right now. Their rites will finish today. It is a time of rituals with old pagan symbols and ceremonies.

I am currently struggling with this myself. I do not like the day, nor its ancient ties to evil. However, because of our too slow removal from all things RC during and after the Reformation, we are in a catch 22 where enough of the people in the culture celebrate it with more elaboration, and the church is left to create a response to it.
