Re: Housewives an endangered species?
A woman can work outside the home and still be a homemaker, it does not have to be an either or choice.
My husband never pressured me to stay at home or to work outside the home but he gave me strong support for whatever choice I made and continued to support me as my choices changed. Together we made the decisions that were best for our family. As a nurse I had the option of shift work and often worked nights so that I could be home during the day with the children. Sometimes my husband worked nights and I did day or weekend shifts. We managed to raise five healthy happy kids. Soon my husband will be home and I will continue working. He loves to garden and to cook and I like my job and coming home to a nice meal already made and a clean house suits me fine too.
I think Proverbs shows us that women are capable of many roles and that God made them to be a helpmeet whether that is found in homemakeing and childrearing alone or combined with a career the Lord approves.
It is with love and respect that each couple will find the roles that are right for them. Love and respect are to be paramount in the Christian marriage and that is how God has it all worked out.

BINGO! and what is right for one family is not necessarily right for another family. I had one daycare mom one time who would say to me at least once a week that she would give anything to be able to stay at home and take care of her little girl herself and that she was so jealous that I got to be with her baby all day while she worked. I sympathized every time and encouraged her to find a way to make that work for their family so she could! Then she had her second baby. By the time the baby was less than 2 weeks old, the mom was walking over here every day with the 3 year old and the newborn and spending most of her day here because at home, the girls drove her crazy. Suddenly, she couldn't understand how in the world I could do this every day! LOL. She had 6 weeks maternity leave coming to her, but went back to work after only 3. She was a GREAT mom - still is! But she wasn't cut out for spending her whole day at home with her kids. She needed to work in order to feel like she was accomplishing something. To each their own, I say!

Awwww come on baron. You know what I am talking about.
Women who work outside the home today still works more than 8 hours a day. It is just that she is toiling for someone else other than her family. She still has to come home to chores and caring for her family.
I had 12 and 16 hour days plus everything at home.

Re: Housewives an endangered species?
I wish I could answer that ... but given the sometimes hostile environment here...I will not.
Not that anybody here actually cares anyway.

Re: Housewives an endangered species?
I care and I'm not hostile.
The main issue for me is that there seems to always be a lot of societal pressure for women to do this or that... One camp says stay at home another says have a career and both forget the woman who works because she must to have enough means to live within...
Really it is a FAMILY decision that does not need the input or gilt trip of public opinion.

Re: Housewives an endangered species?
If you're making less than like, 2000 dollars a month by yourself, then it takes a two income household to survive. So yes, pretty soon, the way the US system makes it, housewives will be a "what is that?" kind of thing.
