I thought someone was lying!!! It really is not funny, nor remotely realistic!
It's a spoof news report--I think it's hilarious. However, I do find it disturbing that people are defending such a stance, spoof or otherwise.
I had a conversation with a relative of mine before she got married. She was joking and said, "After Saturday [the wedding day], I'm going to be a dirty girl." I knew she was only being funny, but it bothered me, and I said, "No, you'll still be pure." She contradicted me, and I said again, "You'll still be pure. Sex inside of marriage isn't dirty."
I had the same hesitation when my husband bought our daughters purity rings a few weeks ago. The standard explanation is "I will remain pure until marriage." That whole phrase irritates me. We decided to change it and if someone asks about the ring, they say, "I'm saving myself for my husband" or "I'm going to be a virgin until I'm married." I know it's a technicality, but it's a misnomer to imply that marriage makes one impure.
Sex in and of itself isn't "dirty." It's only when it's outside the boundaries of God's laws that there's a problem. Unfortunately, there are Christians who still see sex as something "dirty", so the idea of a couple being abstinent after marriage somehow appeals to them. That's just as much outside the will of God as the people who have sex before marriage, IMO.

When this story was first posted on Facebook it immediately generated a huge amount of replies. Many realized it was satire but there were/are a scary amount who didn't. Even worse, of those who didn't, they took both extremes: Some argued that it was not right for the couple to do this, and others applauded them! And not just one or two, but several! I've often told the story of an old pastor who taught that sex was a necessary evil for procreation only and that all manner of rules and conditions needed to be applied to it -he is one who no doubt agrees with this couple (and would not recognize it as satire).
I get it. Was just saying, that it took me by surprise, because I know that it is possible for someone to be that screwed up.

The funny thing about sites like the Onion, Lark news, etc is that they can sound just close enough to reality to fool some folks. Some years ago the Gospel Tidings the Western District magazine printed a Onion article about Harry Potter.....they were totally punked on that one. The more I read the article the more it sounded like something was wrong.....and I had not even heard of the Onion back then. They ended up apologizing for their gullibility in the next issue. Lesson learned...always take this stuff with a grain of salt and check the source.

I posted this article from The Onion a few weeks back. My sisters were on their way to Disney at the time and they were shocked at the story!
There are quite a few people who think Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life. This is not just a holdover from the Immaculate Conception doctrine taught by the RCC but also by many diehard Protestants.
Personally, I believe those who called to be the brothers of Jesus were also the sons of Mary.

Had a pastor who quoted that "article" from the pulpit. A week or two later, he almost apologized. Said it turned out the things he quoted weren't true, and pretty much left it at that. I was surprised he even mentioned it, actually.
