Re: Alternative engagement tokens...
Are there still churches that forbid rings now days? I was not aware of that. If I may ask, what would be the difference in a ring and an expensive watch with diamonds? If it is against the rules for rings, why not have a CHEAP Wal-Mart watch or rather use a cell phone that has a clock on it? When we got married, I got a cheap gold band and for the engagement I got a white Bible. I now have a 2 piece ring set with a diamond that was given to my husband to give to me. I cherish both and have never felt convicted of wearing either. I guess the story of the Prodical son would not go over so well in the church today.

Re: Alternative engagement tokens...
It's called inconsistency. A band around your finger is a sin. A band around your wrist is ok ...if there's a small clock attached to it.

Re: Alternative engagement tokens...
A watch is jewelry, so to not exchange wedding rings because it's jewelry but instead do watches is kinda silly.

I do not wear a watch. My girlfriend does not wear a watch. Most of the saints in our church do not wear flashy or jeweled watches.

My Dad taught against wearing jewelry and he didn't wear anything else gold, bejeweled or fancy, either. Not even belt buckles. Some people are consistent.
Me...I'm like a magpie, attracted to all the shiny stuff.
