Most church folks will TOLERATE a young preacher every now and then preaching/teaching a midweek service, but very much of that and the attendance begins to fall off.

Ever think that this mindset is simply from man made church culture and maybe needs to change? Is maybe the attitude of "Its gotta be the pastor or im gonna get offended" a bit bordering on worship of man? Just because someone is a Man Of God doesnt mean God is gonna show up and straighten them out.We are to be submitted to one another as believers not "Never question me cause if God dont like it He will take care of it"...sorry...just bad theology.Plenty of bad ministers still truckin out there...yes they will be judged one day but that doesnt do anything for the people caught in erroneous teaching now.Scriptures must be continually searched and used as a benchmark in context for what is preached....and Im not saying this with any preacher in mind really so please dont think Im smearing someone.

I second MTD's response, for one. I can't find "salary for pastors" teaching anywhere in the NT. Giving yes, honoring yes, respecting yes... but a salary for the pastor or man of God, no.

Re: Life in the pastor's house
Could you imagine Peter, Paul, and John negotiating a salary with the Churches? And since they were apostles, having more marketable skills, they would have to have had more than the local Pastors.

Re: Life in the pastor's house
Pentecostals usually like the book of Acts. Lets try this.
I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:33-35
Paul is speaking to the elders/pastors of the Church at Ephesus. Would have been a great time to exhort the Elders about making sure the people pay their tithes wouldn't it?
Instead he tells them to work with their own hands. These were REAL New Covenant ministers.

Well the book of Acts doesn't really go all that far to Pentecostals I guess.

It's called selectivity... or in simpler terms - picking and choosing ....
