I am happy to say I never bought one. LOL
But many, many did. Lots of people started coming back to church etc.

That explains it for me, D4T. I had left the UPC in 82 when Walt and I first got together. We got married in 85. So in 87, I would have been attending the Methodist church with him. Thanks for the explanation.

I remember being interviewed by news cameras because my former church was selling the books.

Of course. We can't refuse to be interviewed. Whether he was pro/anti TV, that's absurd. He took it as an opportunity to tell the world to get ready. I was a young person then... It was rather scary. I don't think everyone believed in 88 Reasons, but many of us were obedient through it all. Some left the church because of it. Surprisingly, some were still at the church last I knew that came in during 88 Reasons.

The problem is we have seen very few original preachers hit the scenes in the past 25 years...

Mark was an outstanding preacher to a hungry generation, too bad he lost the path and God's purpose.

I'd completely forgotten pogs. lol I think that was a memory best left..forgotten.
I wasn't UPC so I have no idea who produced most of our worship songs. Since the church still sings the same. songs. I could probably find out though. If I cared. lol
I remember Reagan's presidency.
PAGERS...oh I wanted one so badly. Never did get one though.

Re: I Remember When...
.16 cent a gallon gas, .5 cents for cokes, telephone calls, bus rides and candy bars. Church lasted until midnight and revivals lasted for six weeks. Two new pair's of overalls two new shirts and a pair of new shoes when school started in September, they had to last. School books, pencils and paper was furnished by the parents not the government and if we ate our lunch at school it was from a paper bag or lunch box we took with us from home. Radio not TV was our entertainment. Professionals looked professional and teacher wore ties and women teachers wore skirts and hose and never allowed their students see them smoke if they did. We were poor but we were proud and we were happy. I'd sure like to go there again!

Re: I Remember When...
Remember when we all had CB radios? My handle was "Honey Graham" and I could talk to all those truckers, if they could get me home fast from college! I had a ten hour drive from MS to southern IL, and I'd get in the "rocking chair" - (isn't that what it was called?) and fly home at about 85 mph. Our parents stayed prayed up; that's for sure!
I can't imagine my kids not having cell phones. My parents never could find us unless we were in the car with the CB.
