I remember when kids played outside all day every day during the summer.
I remember when pork fat wasnt considered toxic waste.
LOL... good ones.
Yes sir... everybody used to keep a "bacon grease jar" on the stove where you kept the prized commodity of bacon grease to flavor everything from mustard greens to cornbread.
When we butchered hogs in the fall, my mom would render the fat out to make lard. She'd fill 5 gallon Cain's Potato Chip cans with it and store it out in the utility room. We'd use that all winter long anytime we needed grease for anything. It made the BEST popcorn you have ever tasted!
oh and the cracklin's that came up when she was rendering. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

We never butchered hogs or rendered lard but we might be headed that direction. LOL

I remember when my aunt first got married, (she was quite a bit younger than my dad), and she saved the grease from cooking hamburger meat, because that is what she thought her mom always did! The first hot summer day that came along, her kitchen smelled like someone had died in it!!! LOL!!
