I've never been one to say that Pentecostals look slouchy. For the most part, the ones I hang around don't. I think the ones who do, would, even if they weren't in church.

But at conferences? Oh, yeah. I've never seen such flamboyance any where else.

I was working in the registration room at a conference a while back, and when some of the women would leave the room, we'd all look at each other and burst out laughing. Some of the outfits and hairdos were just unreal.

I love beautiful, quality clothing. But when people are snickering behind your back, or turning their heads for a second look just because you look so flashy, that's not modest, imo.
I am not going to jump anyone for this. It is human nature to want to express yourself and stand out from the crowd.

My son attends a school that requires uniforms, the glitch in the uniform is that they have figured out they can wear any color of undershirt under their polo shirts. I am not sure my Son has worn a white teeshirt under his polo since he figured that out.

The women in the UPC have even less latitude than most so they have to find ways to "legally" stand out.

We dressed to compete!!! Something new every time and we had to out dress everyone else - it was a game and we loved it! LOL!

So for some of us who have been around - it's not a UPC thing - by far - it's not! LOL!
I fully realize it is not just a UPC/apostolic thing. The thing that is grating, like I mentioned before, is the piousness and false humility that so many have while doing exactly what we are both talking about -both in the world and at church functions.

You've been in rodeo's? I have never been to one but would love to sometime. One of my wife's cousins has competed quite a bit and looks the part to a T.

What else do you preach off of them? That seems like it might become a bit immodest, never heard of a preacher preaching the clothes off people before.

Yeah, the country music and rodeo scene might give them a little competition in the flamboyance contest.

Even there, though, I've not seen things to compete with some of the outlandish things I've seen at conferences.

Don't get him started on thongs ... errr sandals!

Had a funny time @ campmeeting one time during the reading of the rules. A minister while reading the rules stated the women weren't allowed to wear thongs ... then he paused ... and turned bright red. He meant sandals.

Should've just kept reading ... good laugh though.

I'm not jumping anyone for doing it. I just think it's a double-standard to have that, and then preach against jewelry and harp so much on modesty, without including the full meaning of the word modest.

Have you ever - probably not - been in the middle of a ladies function with all the flamboyant dresses and the Holy Ghost falls and everyone is crying and could care less about their clothes or hair, Randy? This is the heart of these women - they love their God and they want to feel pretty. What woman doesn't!

And sure, there are arrogant, stupid woman that are not touched because they are so into themselves, but that is just on a small scale, IMO.

My father was a team roper and I married a bull rider - so - yes, been there done that. LOL! I'm not a sporty type girl, so I rode our horses, but didn't ride in the rodeos, but I loved being around them. I wore heels and let the others wear the typical western boots - not my style. My younger sister called the cowgirls "Buckle Bunnies"!

We purchased clothes months ahead getting ready for them all! Sound familiar? - it's a girl thang!!! LOL!

I understand your point.

God created us to be unique he gave different talents and abilities, different complexions, noses, eye colors and shape, etc. When you begin to limit the way a person can express their uniqueness they find other ways to do it.
