Re: How to Save Money
ILG, If folks get serious about these recipes they need to buy cocoa, oats, sugar goods in bulk. About half price if you buy 10 to 25 lbs rather than small boxes.

Right, but I thought it would be fun to see what people would do!

Yes, and if you get them at the Old Order Mennonite store you can get them pretty cheap!! That's where I get some things in bulk even though I only get there once or twice a year since we moved. I have often thought that if I were going to open a business here, I would open a bulk food store. The only place you can buy bulk here is at the co-op and they are trendy environmentalist types who overcharge for everything!

OK - I See!
IF I had my same job etc., I would put the 40% down then put the rest on 15 years and try my best to pay it in ten years.

A distant cousin just opened another such store here called "HOOVERS". That makes about five bulk food joints within 20 miles of here.

Homemade Granola
3/4 c brown sugar
1/3 c vegetable oil
1/3 c honey
5 c oatmeal
1/2 c dry milk
3/4 t cinnamon
pinch of salt
1/2 c raisins (add after cooking)
Mix brown sugar, oil and honey in saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Put dry ingredients in large cake pan. Pour sugar mixture over dry mixture and mix well. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes. Store in airtight container after cooling. You can also add other ingredients as desired (coconut, etc.)

THANKS!! I've been thinking about making some granola for my son. I can't buy it anywhere because it always either contains peanuts or "may contain" peanuts. I wonder how this would be if you pressed it into a pan, baked it and then cut it into bars? Have you tried that?

ILG, I still think you are part Injun! Have you ever constructed teepees?
