I for one don't think that every detail has to be absolutely correct. Over the last 15 years I've found that I've had a lot of details messed up. I don't think even today that I would have been lost back then. I'm not sure I've got every detail right today. In fact, I'm sure I don't. I think the key is those that hunger and thirst after rightousness though. If your happy not having it right, that's the problem...

The heresy hunters are still with us. Only now, instead of stakes, they use their books and radio programs to destroy those they consider heretics.... I'm concerned that heresy hunting may be turning into leukemia because some cultwatchers seem more intent on destroying parts of the body than healing the body....

nope,

Mark Arnold's (faulty) history is based on his personal (faulty) conception of "The Church."

God's House is much larger than the little room that many live in.

Jerry,
That is what I was trying to say in my pervious post when I referred to Mark Arnold's (faulty) perception of "The Church." Not everyone is lost who does not see things the way you see them nor the way I see them. We believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. That makes our hearts right. Our heads have got a long way to go yet.

Aww, c'mon now.
I'm not that old.

But,
April 3, 2010 is the 50th anniversary of what we call the Charismatic Renewal.

And in 2006 we celebrated a "Century of Pentecost".

I celebrated half a century of Pentecost in 2006.

I was baptized in the Spirit on Pentecost Sunday May 26, 1956 at Bethel Tabernacle (UPC) in Racine, Wisconsin.

So, I guess I am kinda (or kindly as they say in Kentucky and southern Ohio) old.

Is it what Jesus defined it as? People who love each other?

The Church is two or three people gathered in His Name (Matthew 18:20) and they are identified by their love (John 13:34-35).

The concept that at least two plus Jesus make a "church" or "congregation" is some times called "the Messianic minyan." The Jews required a minimum of 10 Jewish males over the age of 13 to be gathered before it would be considered a congregation. So 10 was the minyan. The minyan or requirement for a New Testament church would be at least two and they could be either male or female (ref Galatians 3:26-28). When Jesus said what is recorded in Matthew 18:20 He may have been saying what was said by Rabbi Chananyah ben T'radyon who said, "If two sit together and words of Torah pass between them, the SH'khinah abides between them, as it is said, 'Those who feared Adonai spoke together, and Adonai paid heed and listened, and a record was written before him for those who feared Adonai and thought on his name' (Malachi 3:16)" (Avot 3:2)
