Notice in Roman 8:11-12 that the reason verse 12 says we do not have to live after the flesh (succumb to temptation) is because the Spirit enlivens our mortal bodies. This is not speaking of resurrection., but present times when we need to see sin cease ruling our mortal bodies.
Rom 8:11-12 KJV But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (12) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 6:12 KJV Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
If our members of our bodies are made His instruments, He uses them instead of sin. So the Holy Ghost does indeed help us overcome temptation in this manner.
And Davec519 has it right!
"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Gal 5:16)
Yielding to the Spirit to use our members is walking after the Spirit.

And if preachers on average have more "anointing" than a typical layperson, wouldn't that by default cause them to be held to a higher standard (I threw this in because I've seen lots of preachers claim that they shouldn't be held to a higher standard)...
I answered yes, but as to the statistical question, it's not that pat.
Let me use an analogy. Gas makes a car go...run out of gas, no go...you just coast
Now, without suggesting or getting into the subject of whether or not people lose the Holy Ghost, let's instead look at influence. People can resist the influence of the Holy Ghost or rather be less sensitive to that influence.
The Holy Spirit is not much help to me if I am not taking advantage of the Holy Spirit in spiritual exercise like praying, fasting, reading the word, being an active participant in spiritual tasks like witnessing or helping my brothers or sisters, intercession. I find that the more involved I am in those things the stronger I am

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
Every sinner must repent of their sins.
That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
The Holy Ghost gives us power to witness, to overcome, etc.
But we must walk in the Spirit, so as not to fulfil the lusts of the flesh.
I wonder if some don't think they receive the Holy Ghost and that's all they
have to do. If we ate only one time, we would starve to death. Why should
we not understand that we must be "refilled, refueled, etc., spiritually.
If we eat every day, should we not also eat spiritually also. And drink deeply
of the Spirit.
Paul said in Rom. 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it
is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the
Jew first, and also to the Greek.

I agree, but would not single out tongues. All claims of Christianity and Holy Spirit indwelling are suject to the fruit being produced - not simply proclamations.

Re: Does the Holy Ghost help you resist temptation
Yes the Spirit keeps one from sinning IF like others have said they walk by faith.
] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
[12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
[13] For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8:11-13
We must by the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body.
Do tongues help to make us strong? Certainly!
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 1 Cor. 14:2
Praying in tongues builds up your spirit helping you overcome.

Yes He does, but that some Holy Spirit "checks" those who speak in tongues and Christian converts who don't speak in tongues imo.
It is my opinion that one does not have to speak in tongues to be lead by the Holy Spirit in avoiding and/or shunning sin. That same Holy Spirit convicts the tongue talker and the Christian convert the same when they do fall short.

HAVING the HG is not the issue at all. It is YIELDING to the Spirit that makes the difference. Yielding to the Spirit is where victory comes from. Simply having received the HG at one time in one's life is absolutely no guarantee that one will live an overcoming life.
