It's plain that in more than a decade the org is stagnant in North America.

Why is that HMD?
Well then stagnant. Is that different than Christianity in general in the US?

I am. The point is, the decline is national, and across denominational lines.

In 1945 the UPC had 521 churches and as of 1999 they had 3892. From 1998 to 1999 they added 31 churches, which was an .8% growth. (This is the net amount after subtracting the churches which closed or left the organization from the new ones which started.) This is certainly not an indicative of the 'enormous' growth some members claim.

Churches.....3892.......3988

In 11 years, they lost 96 churches. As Hoovie stated above, how are the other demon's rates over the last 10-11 years? That would give us a "realistic" number.

Wow, I muffed those numbers.

They have lost almost 100 churches in a decade.

Precipitous decline. Not explosive growth.

Re: Most Recent UPCI Stats

This would explain a major part of the economic cuts.
This is affected exponentially when many of these losses are "pillar churches" and legacy churches.

Considering the admitted rate of attrition by Bernard of ministers leaving who think the org is either too strict or not strict enough ... and the reports of hundred of new licensees joining the ranks... this appears to be a serious hemorrhage
They all became little Rob Bells.

I don't know about the other organizations you asked about, but I can guarantee you that there is a HUGE decline in the United Methodist Church. Think I'll look that up just to see for sure.

Exactly. They have probably been cracking down with harsh "holiness standards" or something...

Re: Most Recent UPCI Stats

I can't recall right now where I read them but in the past month or two a major news site had an article about the decline in church attendance by those becoming young adults in America.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
