They are welcome to apply for non-profit government aids along with the rest of the United States and other non-profits. They've applied. That's all that has happened.

It's not odd to be behind on building a multi-million dollar structure. Just take a survey of churches in your religious organization! Or ask anyone who has been through a building project. No news here, Coadie. Just sensationalism.

There are Muslim community centers all over the country and they offer community based services. Legal aid, medical clinics, food banks - why is this application for a grant for the same services any different?

Most of the (other) community centers were built before "PR" was needed, SO, what's the issue? Just some hate speech? LOL

I don't have a problem with the services. This just is far from being an actual Mosque and able to serve. If they apply for grants after they finish their Mosque in 5-10 years, it would make sense.

Well, the grant coadie is posting, says they are between $100,000 and $1M. So perhaps the remaining $4M are in the form of other grants?

Regarding the size of the grants -- all depends on what is being done and what human resources are involved, etc...

The grants will range from $100,000 to $1 million, according to Julie Menin, chair of Community Board 1 and a member of the LMDC board. Among the criteria used to judge applications, Menin said, are financial viability, job creation, revitalizing the community and a track record of service in Lower Manhattan.

All subject to meeting qualifications. Still $5M is unconfirmed.
