Re: Is killing justifiable if done in self defense

If our home was invaded, I wouldn't even look at the invaders as people, but rather threat agents that needed to be dealt with. I would shoot, not to kill, but to end the threat. I wouldn't even be thinking "OK, aim for a part of the body that will hurt but not kill....", no it would be "OK, now aim at the invader which is threatening us and shoot until he is no longer a danger."

Lol

Jesus IS our standard brethren.

Remember when Christianity cost you more than a dress code?

Re: Is killing justifiable if done in self defense

Well....to me it is one thing if an intruder breaks in my home and I am there alone...it is quite another thing if my wife and children are there. I am a trained martial artist (go ahead and throw rocks, I know most Apostolics think that all martial arts are idol worship etc.) I would use my art without hesitation to protect my family...no questions asked.

In my opinion the definition of a martyr is one who dies because they are professing Christ, not dies because they just gave up and let someone take their life in leiu of defending themselves. (i.e. a burglar)

They died as a result of their obedience to the Gospel.

With that in mind, I think that the very premise of this thread begs the question: Are you willing to place your very life in the hands of God alone, knowing that you might die a martyr’s death as a result of obeying Christ’s call to peace?

Some would say they are not willing and would readily reach for a gun and kill. Others say yes… and place their very lives in the hands of God.

But we should take caution in this discussion and not judge either side too harshly; because only God can truly judge between the wheat and the tares.

I was thinking about this also… If I were asked to smuggle Bibles into a closed country and discovered that the man smuggling Bibles to underground pastors packed a deadly weapon “just for protection”…I’d be leery. I’d not believe that he fully placed his trust in God. However, if a man of peace who was willing to perish a martyr’s death asked me to smuggle Bibles with him I’d be more at peace… knowing he had relinquished all control to God.

Any thoughts on this post?
Of course!

I would never want to shoot a human being, but if someone broke into my house and tried to hurt my wife or daughters then I would shoot someone.

I, too, am a trained martial artist. One reason I wanted to learn martial arts was for the sole purpose of self defense, but to never use my training to kill anyone, but to subdue a threat. Using martial arts I know how to kill another human being, but I would never use my skills to kill...only to neutralize a threat.

Obedience isn't giving up, in any context, even if it costs you your life.

I'd gladly attempt to use non-lethal efforts to allow my family to escape, even if it cost me my life.

Is God protecting your home? If so, nothing will happen that God didn't allow, trust in Him.

Same here! I would hit them with some oil paintings and finish them off with water colours!
