Our family is not on FB either, for the very reason of privacy, and the drama. We made the decision to not be part of FB right after it first took off, and we feel it was the best decision we ever made for our family.
I believe that people are so caught up in this "fantasy" world of FB where you can be whatever, or whoever you want to be, that they have a hard time dealing with the real world, and that is why it is so addicting for them. Their own life is not so great, yet, they try to glamor it up and make it seem better on FB.
I believe FB/Twitter are just another tool of the enemy to destory families too... just as in the case of the mother in the restaurant with her two kids. They needed her attention, but her focus was towards a fantasy world, instead of dealing with her own two precious beautiful children.
Makes you wonder what kind of family values this next generation growing up are going to have????
I like facebook because people will post pictures of their activities. I can log in and view it for a few minutes and see things like:
* My Pastor is wishing his wife Happy Anniversary
* My ex hair dresser posted pics of her trip to NY
* a few friends have posted pics of their family gatherings
* Someone needs prayer for something
In no time I'm caught up on what is going on with family and friends.

I think it will bring flowers. why?
because i'm planting flowers 🌹
I resisted FB for pretty much the reasons stated, but have a page there now and use it like Amanah. If I can make a comparison, money is not evil, but loving it is.
I do daycare for a 4 year old little girl. Today I was telling her about something that had happened to me when I was a kid (about age 12). At the end, she said to me, "So did you use your phone to call your mom for help?"
It occured to me then that she will never know of a time when people didn't walk around with a phone attached to their ears everywhere they went.

Very true, anything good, can become bad if it is overused or abused. Like drinking water too for example... quite a bit of it is good for you, but if you drink too much you can die... so yes... FB if used in moderate amounts without becoming an addiction is not a problem....
But it does seem to be a pretty big problem, because so many families can't even enjoy time together without stopping to check their phone. That does worry me... what about you?

well, I have facebook, but don't carry my phone with me, I leave it in my car.
But my Sister on the other hand can be very annoying with her phone. Its not the phone apps that are the problem. Its people having their phone with them at all times that is the problem.

Yes, I know, and that is my concern, people that literally can't do anything unless their phone is in their hand, and you're trying to make conversation, and they're tapping away on their phone. Very frustrating.
I thought of another example that happened when FB first came out, and it was just taking off. I was at a ladies prayer meeting, UPC church. There was a time of quietness, and all that could be heard was tap, tap, tap. I couldn't figure out what it was, and went back to praying. Then, I needed a Kleenex, so I got up to go to the front to grab the tissue box. I passed the pastor's wife seat, and realized what the tap, tap, tapping noise was - she was praying out loud (well, saying words out loud) and tapping away on her phone, while we were at a prayer meeting. I thought that was pretty crazy! I realized then just how addictive and dangerous cell phones with the Internet on them are.
We don't have any cell phones with the Internet, and aren't a part of FB because I know it would be just as easy for my kids to fall into the FB addiction trap as the next. I just don't want that for my family.
