Re: Make Sure you have the Right Bible !!
I own both the KJV and the Geneva Bible. It was published and translated according to the Greek and Hebrew texts. It's not hard to read once you understand old english. The King James Version of the Bible grew out of the king's distaste for these brief but potent doctrinal commentaries in the Geneva Bible. He considered the marginal notes to be a political threat to his kingdom. Which is why he had his own version printed.

Two older manuscripts, the Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus, discovered in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are given preference in the newer translations over the body of documents which were used to define text from which the KJV was derived. Ordinarily, manuscripts wear out and are replaced on a regular basis but these two old manuscripts had been out of use so they survived. One was hidden away by the Roman Catholics and the other was in a trash bin at an Orthodox monastery. Why was this old document in a trash bin and not used? Could it be the folks realized it wasn't reliable so they didn't use it but just couldn't go ahead and burn it up because it was an old document and a copy of the Bible? Does older mean better? or more reliable?

Nothing was "left out" the KJV is based on a series of Greek Manuscripts that are recent and include those verses
The others are based on a series of Greek Manuscripts that are OLDER and do not include those verses. Modern textual critics (the science of examining antiquities in writing particularly the bible) by and large believe the older MSS are more reliable

Re: Make Sure you have the Right Bible !!
I use my Kindle Fire in church for my Bible. I not only purchased the ebook versions of the KJV, MKJV, and NIV but then my pastor told us about the Uversion app that gives you free of charge just about every translation out there.
My pastor currently uses the HCSB version when preaching so I have it downloaded free of charge from this app. Using my kindle allows me to check out how a passage reads in multiple translations fairly quickly so it is almost like having a giant parallel bible.

Re: Make Sure you have the Right Bible !!
If you look at it logically it is kind of bizarre in the 21st century to use a translation that is Old English. It uses words and phrases that have either lost their meaning over time or are not used anymore. The KJV actually makes it more difficult to understand the word of God than a translation into modern english.
When I grew up in old time Pentecost it was the Old English of the KJV that made it seem mysterious and special. Some kind of proof that it was the word of God vs some book in normal english. LOL.
You could see that mentality played out in tongues with interpretation also. The interpretation was always given in Old English like the KJV. Apparently God really, really likes Old English!!!

Re: Make Sure you have the Right Bible !!
Just like Shakespeare, I've heard that the Bible just isn't the Bible until you've read it in its original Klingon.
