I would not go to a church where they dressed imodest (didn't follow holiness standards) or they dress sloppy for church. I wasn't raised that way. I dress better to go to walmart than some do to go to God's house and that is a shame.

I do understand how you came to this conclusion. I don't immediately sense hypocrisy etc. when you make the case to "dress up for church". It has not been so many years ago that a man would dress in a three piece suit to get on a plane. While dressing up to go anywhere is simply not a requirement anymore - except very formal events, I do understand it was once not so and for some still is not.

I have always hated wearing suits. The only times I ever have was when I was doing weddings. It reminds me of slick politicians or salesman.

I was brought us that way. At Christmas and holiday dinners and family functions we dress up. my wife dresses nice to go to town. When we travel we dress dressy causual. Funeral are dressy for ladies and suits for men. This is proper. I don't wear a suit to garden or go fishing that's not proper, but nither is it proper to wear my gardening clothes to church.

It's not proper to condemn or look at someone with shame or disgust who wasn't brought up the way you were or who doesn't dress to your standards. I would bet my pay check that God's Spirit isn't suppressed by someone who's wearing jeans and a polo shirt rather than a suit and tie. But i'll concede this...if a person is dressin like a bum out of a bad attitude or rebellion, then that's a whole other story....but the same can be said about a person who dresses really nice for the looks and approval of other ppl with a proud spirit. I've seen ppl wearing stylish suits and bow ties who look more ridiculous than me wearing khakis and a button down shirt. Ppl notice nice flashy apparel well before they notice something plain and general. The whole attitude of "dress your best" within the pentecostal ranks creates nothing more than a competitive AND envious spirit...not to mention a complex and a feeling of not fitting in for a person who can't afford to look as nice as the others. I choose to wear casual clothing because 1. it's more comfortable. 2. I know God isn't concerned with it...no matter how loud the pastor preaches about it. 3. I don't want to be known or talked about by the clothing I choose to wear.

I'd rather walk into a pentecostal service dressed like a bum to make the less fortunate ppl who can't afford nice clothes feel welcome and not out of place, than to wear nice clothes and receive compliments and praise. No matter what your pastor says or how you were brought up...Church is the body of Christ...not a sam hill building...and gathering in a building with others who are in the body of Christ isn't a fashion show. Put your cameras away, get off your phones and stop tweetin the gossip, and start tweetin your mouths to Jesus with praise. He didn't die on that old rugged cross so that His people could condemn others for what they wear...He died so that we might have life. Life is in the blood...not in a big piece of cloth...or silk.
