Let's talk about modesty

What does modesty mean to you?

Is it just about covering your privates with clothing? Is it about how flashy and/or expensive your clothing and accessories are? Is it about how loud and attention-grabbing you choose to be? Is of about choosing discretion in your speech and behavior? Is it about not bragging? Is it about not having a proud and haughty spirit?

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this subject!

Re: Let's talk about modesty

My short answer when it comes to clothing, modesty is covering up body parts that will catch attention with clothing that wont catch attention. My short answer for modest speech, modesty is not bragging about how modest you are.

There has been almost nothing as eye opening for me personally as seeing how utterly hypocritical most young people were in the UPC in following every "rule" yet completely ignoring every principle in modesty while growing up in the church. At each and every family camp during Summer all the women and girls maintained "the Pentecostal look!" while still looking like they were posing for photographers on the red carpet for a Hollywood premier.

My wife grew up on a farm and in the Assembly's of God church and shows far more modesty and fruits of the spirit then almost ALL PENTE-COSTAL young people I have ever known.

My respect for the jean skirt wearing, hair down to the butt, "all hang around the 'cool pastors kids' cliks" is completely nil.

Re: Let's talk about modesty

I believe that Pentecostals can dress very modest and still look good. They don't have to be plain and dowdy to be modest.

I detest this causual dress that is coming into the church. I believe we should give God our best and look our best.

Who is to say what is somebodies best? Does God judge on what somebody wears to His church or is this the role for those that sit in judgement.
